Removing Stock Heat Sink Compound

Post by moonknight »

Just thought I would share the method I use for removing stock heat sink compound from the GPU and CPU: I use a solvent called Goof Off. Just wet a cloth with a little bit of it and rub the chip or heat sink with it and it cleans up pretty fast. For the side of the chip, I use the same cloth and the tip of my fingernail. Dries without residue, also, although i usually polish to a mirror finish with a dry part of the rag. :D

I use goof off every now and then when I have some :P

You can also use WD-40, just make sure you use rubbing alcohol to clean the heatsink after.
