Nintendo has released new firmware updates for DSi and Wii that reportedly disable the use of a number of flash carts and software modifications.

The company said that Nintendo DSi Menu Ver 1.4.1U “provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance”, but GBATemp.net forum posters claim that homebrew-enabling flash carts like Supercard DSTwo, Acekard 2i, M3i Zero and iPlayer no longer work post-update.

Meanwhile, Nintendo said that “updating to Wii Menu version 4.3 will check for and automatically remove” unauthorised channels or firmware, which the company claims “may impair game play or the Wii console”.

“If your Wii console includes unauthorised modifications, this update may detect and remove unauthorised content causing immediate or delayed inoperability of your console,” the update warns. “Failure to accept this update may also render this and future games unplayable.”
