BenQ into Lite-on

Hi Guys, Not been on here for ages. I have just had a mate get in touch with me about putting a new drive in his 360. His current drive is a lite-on 7 series with stock firmware giving him open tray error. He wants a new drive, so is it ok to spoof a BenQ in there as stock? He plays on live so doesnt want to run the risk of a ban. He is not interested in playing back ups ;) but i wouldn't want to get him a new BenQ and he gets banned. I am not 100% sure wether he would get a ban for a different drive in there even though it is not running LT just stock firmware. As always your help is much appreciated. Thanks guys ;) Fozzy

there will be a chance of him getting banned
even replacing the broke dvd drive with the same model dvd drive (the safest way fyi) he will run the risk of being banned
but
spoofing in a dive there is/will be a risk
the only way to not have risk is a new console.
sorry for the bad news

Thanks for the swift reply Cofree, i Wasn't 100% but you have confirmed what i thought. I didn't know there was a chance of being banned with same model drive  , guess microsoft are the only ones who are allowed to repair em then? . Thanks again man appreciate it :D Fozzy

the chance maybe slim but its there man
i would think around the release of black op
it will be ban time again

but from what im seeing they are working on fixes for the cheats that are going on.

Go on ebay or whatever website, and just buy him a new laser, or a whole new drive, then swap the logic board's. (or laser if you can find one)

Then software wise the drive is the exact same, hardware wise, its brand new.

I'd agree, the ban wave is likely to hit around black op's release.

if he were to swap logic boards then he would still need to flash his key into the new board, so that would be the same as spoofing a new drive.

I would get a new laser, if that doesnt fix it then i would srongly recomend sending the xbox back to m$ for repair, wouldnt wanna get banned now would he ;)

i think that is what he was saying do
get a new drive and take the mobo out of the new one and leave the laser in
but
put the mobo from the old drive in and it should work same firmware and all different laser
that if he could not find just a laser

Thanks for all of your reply's and input guys. I have just ordered him a new lite-on 7 series drive. The box is out of warranty (2008 model) and i think he has his eye on a new 360s anyway so he's not too bothered about a ban if it happens, besides the box will eventually rrod anyway. I think there will be a ban wave again after black ops, just like mw2, and with the early release of halo reach i think there will be millions of boxes banned again. Several people on my friends list were playing it a week before release date  Whilst connected to live as it showed up what they were playing. I reckon m$ wil be selling bucket loads of the new 360s around Nov-Dec just like last year :D . Thanks again guys, i forgot how great this site is as not been here for ages. keep[ up the great work!!! :D

2008 is still in warranty until 2011 for red ring's if he unfortunately got red ring's

Cofree's right, I meant if you cant find a laser to buy, just buy the new drive, then swap the 2 PCB's so the new drive contains the non working drive's FW, keys etc..
