Just sharing my most recent adventure with NMEv2.0

Hi all,

Just repaired a 360 with a tsh943 m25 drive. Replaced lens with brand new. Drive now reads orig games flawless. I installed an NME360 V2.0. Tried my first b/u.... no go. It would recognize the disk, even start to boot sometimes, then freeze, and give Dirty disk error. Over the course of the next week I tried in different combinations using clone cd, imgburn, 2.4x,1.0x,4.0x, changing book type to dvd-rom, even bought a new burner which supported bit setting. Nothing worked. I received everything from mixed media disk, place disk in xbox 360, unplayable disk, to recognizing the disk but not loading or starting to load then freezing and then DDE. I even had it load up the game a few times and played a couple levels with no problem. Then I noticed that the disks I was using (Verbatim DVD+R DL up to 10X) would only support 4X,6X,8X and 10X recording as reported in Imgburn. AHAAAA. Even if I set it to record at 2.4X it would only record as slow as 4X. Well problem solved, i would just get some verbs that support 2.4 and all will be good in the universe.....or so I thought. After burning 9 coasters the first round, I stopper at 2 with the new disks. These would not even read at all, but the previous disks burned a 4x would, partly. Hmmmmmmmmm ! Time to pause and reflect! Is it the chip, the disk, or something else. I believe the chip is working because the game is recognized and even plays on occasion. The disks can't all be bad... sometimes they load fine. It almost seems like.....like......like a weak laser. No couldn't be! It's new. It's supposed to be new. So off I go with my multimeter in hand, skipping all the way to my test bench. Now, can you imagine how surprised I was to find my "new" laser lens to have a reading of 2.23 ohms when it should be between 3.4 and 4.0. So I swap it for one from one of my other units with a Hitachi drive with the same lens reading 4.0ohms. Would you look at that......every stinkin copy of fear works. all 11 of them. Yup, the ones burned at 1X worked, the ones burned at 2.4X worked, the ones burned at 4X worked. Yaaaay. This work out soooooo goooooooood. Now instead of having 11 coasters, I have.........1 working backup and 10 coasters/backups. NME360 V2.0 is working good. Took about 5-10 min to install. Easier install than some of the ps2's i've done.

All sarcasm and jokes aside there is no better feeling than finally winning, after struggling for so long.

ive never been a big fan of the chip for a 360
but im glad you got it going.

that can be the hardest thing to fix
you put a new part in (ok forget that)
then keep working all the while the part is bad.
what a pain :(

good job. :D

Lol@Jumble of text

Punctuation is your friend. :P

Glad you got it sorted.

I'm with CoFree, never been a big fan of drive chips, no reason to hard mod and then have some new update from Microsoft render the drive chip obsolete. At least with a firmware mod it should be a simple matter of reflashing once a fix is found for any potential counter by MS.

Agreed. Flashing is so much easier since there is no soldering involved that with the 360, there is no point in a drive chip. Now if there was only a way to flash the Wii drive. That would be a whole new can of worms.

yeah, would be nice. And a nice FW hack for PS3 would be handy, I could persuade my better half a BD burner would be a good acquisition then :geek:

I'm with ya on that, doesn't look like it's happening any time soon though.
