so i'm attempting to flash my liteon 7 series (currently flashed with LT) to LT+, but i've hit a wall. i'm using a sata pcmia card that i have successfully used before to flash my old samsung, but never with a lite-on. when i first got it, i damn near pulled my hair out trying to get it working properly, but i finally got the right drivers and everything was running smooth.
today i see that i'm supposed to delete my precious via drivers, and, after some hesitation, i did. as i predicted, my drive is not being detected under any of the ports in jungleflasher. when i try to reinstall the correct driver, windows doesn't let me manually choose it! i go through the driver installation screens (choose from a list>blah blah>choose device from hardware listed below) but it ends up automatically installing some driver. if i try jungleflasher with this driver, i can see my drive under the ports, but i get the dreaded system lock up and i can't click anything.
i'm currently installing xp to a new partition and i'm gonna try fresh from there, but do you guys have any tips on what i should do? i'm stuck with no working drivers and an xbox stuck with a half closed tray! (which btw, is there anyway i can at least get my xbox "back to normal"? it displays properly on screen but i can't open or close the disc tray...)

Might not have been the drivers, sorry you deleted them. Sounds like you were trying to dump the drive before writing it. The LT has read protection on it, so if you try and read your drive again it will fail. There should be a dvd key verified when you open jungleflasher, but that wasn't the case for me on 2 of 3 drives i have tried. As for the drive not responding now, you might have it in vendor mode.
Maybe try a system restore to a day or two before you deleted the drivers, that may get them back.

i don't think it's in vendor mode, this all happened when i pressed lite-on erase but i couldn't cycle the power fast enough, then i couldn't get it to connect again.
the dashboard shows up on screen and i can use it regularly, i just can't open/close the tray and the center light in the ring of lights is blinking green.
EDIT: now i get e64 if i plug in the sata cable on the motherboard, but the dashboard comes up fine if it's plugged into my laptop via sata... ugh!

Once you delete the drivers wont they go in the recycle bin for later, then just restore them.
I have a CK3 lite and every single time I try to use JF, soon as I switch on the CK3 it locks up. I have to restart the PC as it totally locks down. Using XP I managed to open JF, switch on the CK3 but I kept getting this mouse icon of a disc spinning, I give up after 3 days using JF.
I have the same drive as you, if you have a valid dump of the key then just create the FW in Jungle Flasher and use Iprep 12.1 Beta from xbins to flash the drive. Someone talked me through over the phone but if I remember correctly once in Iprep I typed L74 Eras, Once you know what port number the drive is on type the port number eras, then I kept pressing the right arrow key to bring the " port number eras back up ", press enter and do this about 30 times till I got the status 72 or whatever it is. Then it was all ready to flash as normal.
If you havnt got the key then Im not sure but it dont sound to good.
P.S Ive tried to get JF to work for me with a Benq, Liteon 7 series, Liteon 8 series version 1 and 2 for over 3 year now, I keep trying a few times a year but it always gives me many different problems so if I can help it I will be happy to never see that programme again. But for the people it does work for must be amazing.

thanks for the tips nufcmickey. i tried using dosflash to erase the drive, but i keep getting status code FFFF (instead of the desired FF72) no matter which port i tried. i'm not even sure exactly which port is the correct one, because jungleflasher freezes up right when i connect the drive, making it impossible to check.
i'd definitely try the iprep method, but again, i don't have the port number (and would it also be an issue if the drivers are deleted?)

See I carnt give you 100% accurate answers because after I had tried for 3 days with Jungle Flasher I had problems so a guy I met from round my area on a private torrent site asked me for my phone number, He phoned me and talked me through it.
He said he would email me what exactly he did coz I carnt fully remember but he hasnt otherwise id of sent you that. All I remeber is we opened iprep, I typed something so it brought up a list of 1-6 or something and he said can you see your Liteon drive, Like DG blah blah, asked what the port number was, Mine was 09F0, and I typed eras 09F0 then enter, Right arrow key and keep repeating about 30 times and I got the status 72, Then it was erased and I carnt remember the write part either as Ive never used Iprep in this way before. But we wrote it and all went well very easily and simple. I just wish I could help you.
P.S We used Iprep 12.1 from xbins and after creating the FW in JF Im possitive he renamed it to ix1.6. Please dont attempt this yourself if you only have my post to go off.
As for your driver's, windows 7 is a big pain in the ass when it comes to messing with drivers. XP is MUCH easier to manually select the driver.
To 'remove' the driver you'd go into device manager (right click my computer > manage) find your via card, right click and select disable. Now go into your system32 folder, and rename viamraid.sys to something else, IE: viamraid.bak.
Now re-enable your via card in device manager, you will get a yellow exclamation mark. You now have basically disabled the driver, I dont know if this works in windows 7, if you do this in 7 it'll probably just automatically reinstall the driver.

hope u get it sorted though.
that would be great if you could find out exactly what he did, because according to jungleflasher, all the listed ports say no drive connected...
@haggardsmurf: i'll definitely check out that video, thanks for posting it. and i'm on xp, but it still seems like it's trying to automatically install a driver... i feel like the problem is if i leave the drivers installed, i get the JF freeze-up, but if i disable/delete/enable it (which i have done using the exact process you posted), then i don't think the card recognizes the drive.
talk about a double-edged sword...

Try this driver, this is the 310c version I believe its what I have installed. I remember a while back when I got my via card everyone was using a specific version of driver's I believe its 310 but I dont remember.
Anyhow this is the driver, install this driver manually then try the rename method.
To install manually, go to device manager, right click and update driver, select let me chose from specific location, select the first option box, and browse for the .sys file.
Once your driver is updated reboot, then try the rename thing.
viamraid.zip

here's where the problem comes in: i get up to the screen where it says "show compatible hardware", which is checked, and the only thing listed in the box is VIA Raid controller - 3249. if i have that selected and hit next, windows just automatically installs some unknown driver. if i don't select it and click "have disk" instead, a browser pops up forcing me to choose an .inf file (when i obviously want a .sys file).

I'll do a bit of googling, see if I can find the original driver.
Looking through my old posts, I've found this, you can try it, but I'll keep looking for the original driver.
okay we might be making some progress! with that last driver installed, jf doesn't freeze up when the drive's connected. it also shows 4 extra ports (which don't show when no drivers are installed) so i thought it was a good sign. however, it still says no drive connected for every port (minus the ones that show my laptop's dvd drive).
EDIT: i meant that i tried the utuai one, didn't see that you posted the original too. i'll give that a shot now.
also, is it an issue that it's showing up as via 3249 in device manager and JF (instead of 6421?). here's the card i have: http://www.cross-mark.com/sata-serial-p ... p-113.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
EDIT2: for some reason the download link for the original driver isn't working for me

Well the drivers I was giving you were for the VT6421a card which is a PCI-E card.
Using the Uniata driver your card will be identified as a different card, thats just because your not using the right drivers.
