Hacking team demos permanent PS3 jailbreak

"Latest from the Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin"

A hacking team has been demonstrating a technique that will crack the PlayStation 3's loader at the recent Chaos Communication Congress event in Berlin.

The latest PS3 hack claims to give users complete control over their console, something that is bound to cause some ire amongst Sony Computer Entertainment's security specialists.

The team of hackers also demonstrated how they had got around Sony's PS3 security systems, to allow the hacking community to sign their own code.

Hack, crack and sack

What all of this means is that Sony's current v3.55 firmware is now highly vulnerable. Plus, more importantly, it is going to be very difficult for Sony's security folk to make a permanent fix to these exploits.

The hackers promised the Chaos Communication Congress crowd that they will release the tools to take advantage of their PS3 crack next month.

Somebody, somewhere at Sony no doubt just received a rather harsh email from their superiors ordering them to get to work on fixing this…

I want my kids to grow up just like those guy's!

It's nice to know that there are some people out there who can keep up with the big corporations, Sony, Microsoft etc.. and to let them know that no matter how much they try to impose their security on "Our Consoles" as in when I buy it I class it as "MINE" and therefore should be able to do what I like to it.

I bow to your knowledge Guys and wish I was just like you!

Same here man,did not say on the packet "you only own the shell of this product"

As soon as they get, Eitheir ubuntu or an other good Linux distribution on it, plus 3d accelaration. I will have to buy one.

Maybe even run another OS using Virtual Box. who knows.

Just wish onlive was available for linux, then I wouldnt have to switch channels to go between my console and onlive.

This is cool. My kid got online to play Call of Duty while I was gone, now at 3.55 and no more hack...
