Xbox 360 System update now available (no new features)
A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll recieve a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update contains code to ‘prepare for future growth of the service.’ There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features. The next obvious question you’ll have is about the Spring update. At this point we have nothing to announce, and the moment there is information to share I will do so.

I would hold off on this update.
Give it some time.It seem odd that right before a big new game there would be a mandatory update.
so if your able WAIT for a few days.That will give things time to settle down and see what happens.

Yep, no Live for me for a few days...

Good thing my 360 has never been hooked up to Live. If it's what we are thinking, it will be on the GTA IV disc as well.

Ah well C4E has always said he can easily counter whatever MS does, so any fix will likely be very temporary on their end. Thanks for posting.

ummm i think i did it this afternoon... seems ok though. idk if its the same one or what though. my live needs to be renewed now though so i wont know till i get the money to spend on it.

well i would still give it a few days if you can live without live that is.

I'm glad I waited an extra day before trying to take that update, now I know to hold off a little longer.

So, i should still wait a few days till i get back on live?

I've not took the update on all my 360 yet.
I have took it on my test 360 console.Alls well so far.

Being that our game night is Saturday. i'll take the update on my other 360s then.
There is just no reason for me to do it before then.

As for the rest of you guys.
The longer you wait the better,but i under stand if you want to update.
I do think its safe,but crap guys we are playing a cat and mouse game here.

How long is too long to wait?
I'm a pretty patient guy, but I don't want to wait forever if there is no chance they will take a required update off

We never really know how long is a good wait period on stuff like this. Generally, a week is sufficient time. No one has reported being banned as of yet after this update, so one could assume that it is safe. But if you take this assumption, your making that decision. No one here is telling you that its 100% safe to do so.

if you are asking if it will quit telling you to do the update.It wont,it will always be there till you take it.
i think that if this update did have some think cooking it would not happen till the release of GTA4

Like i said i took it on my test box.
and
will take it on my other 360 Saturday night

Now this could be paranoia (only for those who were stupid).........

But it seems really strange that this update has "NO" obvious reason to it yet..........GTA IV was leaked on the net very quickly, it could be some sort of logger after all it's a BIG money release......
