Sony: temp restraining order against GeoHot and fail0verflow

"Sony has been granted their TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) against geohot and with that you’ll notice geohot has removed the keys and jailbreak download from his site."

When a delay in the trial of Sony versus the hackers responsible for jailbreaking the Playstation 3 was announced, it looked as if Sony might have some problems with their case. That changed today with a small victory in the form of a temporary restraining order against George "GeoHot" Hotz and the team members of fail0verflow.

The temporary restraining order prevents Hotz and fail0verflow from linking, distributing or helping in anyway with the hacking or jailbreaking the Playstation 3 or the Playstation Network. The order also requires that all computer equipment used to create the jailbreak be turned over to the authorities but it isn't clear yet if that will actually happen.

Geohot: With his right of expresion and speech gone!

While this is a win for Sony it truly is a case of too little way too late. The jailbreak is out and has spread across the internet like wildfire as different hacking groups have taken the work started by fail0verflow and Hotz to create their own custom firmware, homebrew apps and hacks. In short, the genie is out of the bottle and all that is left to do is to try and make an example of Hotz and the other hackers in the hopes of scaring off other hackers. There's also the problem of the fail0verflow team being located overseas.

Which brings us to the fact that Sony still has to win the trial as the restraining order is only good through its duration. As we pointed out previously, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act was updated to make it legal to jailbreak smartphones like the iPhone. Hotz and his lawyers will likely argue that the same should apply to the PS3 and other home consoles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------TGeohot should go underground now,the guy should of never come upfront in the first place,i just hope he gets a PSP2 for christmas ;)

Yep, he himself shouldn't have come forward, the information should have no doubt been released but it's like robbing a store then coming out publicly and explaining the method to rob that store. Obviously your going to get charged with robbery.

Who know's maybe he will get off scott free seeing as jailbreaking is legal etc, but the justice system is so flawed so who know's whats going to happen.

Graf_chokolo, famous for a multitude of decryption payloads, has warned Sony to back off. Earlier today, several sites were issued Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notices, ordering them to stop hosting several famous PS3 dev's projects. Sites such as GitHub complied with the order, and removed projects being worked on by coders Kakarotoks, Graf_Chokolo, and Kmeaw.

In response to these actions, earlier today on XorLoser's blog, Graf_Chokolo gave Sony an ultimatum. He stated that if Sony was to continue such tactics, that he will publish his IDA database, for the PS3's Hypervisor and Hypervisor processes. What this means, is that reverse engineering the hypervisor would immediately become much easier for other developers using IDA Pro Disassembler. IDA Pro is a popular tool, commonly used in reverse engineering software.

Isn't this some kind of blackmail? Lets wait and see how Sony reply's to this one.Keep up the fight!!!
