BLU RAY Drive problem

Post by samuelsteven »

My PS3 stopped reading discs, so i opened it up to see, if maybe it was the laser lens not working, but when i opened it up and watch the disc load, the motor isnt soinning the discs.
Would this happen if the lens was bad? I dont see how a bad lens would cause the motor not to spin, since I thought the lens was supposed to read an already spinning disc.? Anybody had this problem yet and been able to fix it?

Nope, it a few months out of warranty! lol Oh, man...... So, no idea if a bad laser will cause the discs not spin?

well the laser should not keep the spin motor from spinning.
just the motor going bad is the only thing i can think of.

There are a number of reports of the hardware failing on the 40GB model's. It's not in the 360 range, but always a good idea to get a two year warranty in-store on the PS3. I go with Wal-Mart personally, they will not hassle a refund or exchange at all with a two year warranty.

Actually i got it used as is, off of a trade for an old laptop i had lying around. I figured it would just be the lens, ive yet to find just the motor, its built onto a small board, theres no wires so i cant check to see if its getting power.

well what i can think of is get a spare repair ps3 which has working blu-ray drive and jack the motor and replace it or find a similar motor from a dvd drive or something and replac with that. by the way when you put the disk in does the laser try to read if so could be the motor or the vircuit board
