Just curious, you said the drive sticker itself says it is a 047? Has this drive been flashed before and maybe spoofed as a 079?
To identify if the drive is indeed a 079, remove the dvd drive casing and look at the board. Later versions like the 079 had an epoxy on the board to try and prevent probing one of the chips and dumping it.

If it doesn't have the epoxy (or epoxy residue like someone removed it), then it is probably a 047 drive like the sticker on the case says, and you can flash it back to stock 047.

You said you got a good read of the fw, right? Open that in the first tab of JungleFlasher (Firmware Tool32 tab) and see what it identifies the drive as. It should tell you the Vendor, Model, Rev, and Firmware Type; verify the Rev says 0047 or 0079, and if the Firmware type says Stock or if it lists an IX version.

And the dvd drive motherboard? Did it have the epoxy on it? That would be for sure that the drive is not a 0047.

Code: Select all

Dumping Flash:.Ram Upload - Execute Failed
Flashing Hacked f/w to Hitachi 0078/0079 by Ram Upload Method over Port IO
Dumping Flash:Ram Upload - Upload Failed
Dumping flash looked like it failed here.

If there is a second computer to try the dump and flash from, I would try that. Hitachi's are a bitch if the puter doesn't like it.

so, it does have the epoxy, so its a 79. it keeps coming up w/ ram upload failed. do you think its my pc? i never have a problem flashing my liteon. when i open source firmware it tells me its rev.79 and stock firmware. just to make sure..... i want source firmware to be ofw, and target firmware to be cfw in firmware tab right? :?

Epoxy => 0079.

If you are sure it is stock, then you want to load it in jf and let it select the cfw flash for you. There are a lot of different flashes for the Hitachi, and even different flashes for each rev of Hitachi based on key location.

Try using an older version of jf, like 1.75 or something instead of the newer version.

If it doesn't, see if you can flash from another computer.

Last question, when in mode b does the computer detect the drive?
