Robin Hoods Playground

I have a 2 year old jailborken ps3 (slim 250GB) that is having problems with the blu-ray drive. I need to send it to sony to get it repaired/serviced. Should I send it to sony for them to repair/replace it or should I find another place to send it to? does Sony check the current FW and/or update it to the current/latest OFW? I currently have the Official 3.55 FW. I will want to reinstall a CFW. Any thoughts? Thanks!
