Is backing up a game for the PC the same as, for example, an XBox 360 game? Does the DVD drive in my pc have to be flashed to a particular FW?

Backing up a pc game and an Xbox 360 game are no where near the same. You can back up a PC game by simply putting it in your DVD drive and using a program like Img Burn or Clone cd to copy the disk and save it as an iso img. I'm thinking the reason no one else answered your question is because there are more than a dozen tuts out there explaining the process.
