there is no telling whether it would or would not work, most people cant get their motherboard chipsets to work with the drives and avoid dissapointment. if you dont want anything to go wrong then get this card:
http://svp.co.uk/product/via_vt6421a_sa ... _card_5617" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

by the way what do you mean you got a neew drive to flash, we need more details on what you are planning to do. do not start it until you are sure about the procedure. look at the tutorial section its really helpful.
thanks

Make sure to read through the tutorial section first and then, once you have a good understanding, just try reading out the firmware. It will either work, or not work. But it won't hurt to just read out the FW.

You will have to dump the drive key from the BenQ and inject into your Samsung firmware, then spoof the Sansung as a BenQ before flashing. Here's a guide for spoofing:

viewtopic.php?f=110&t=233" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Spoofing just means your Samsung drive will report as a BenQ on Live and to the console. It's a good safety precaution when installing a new drive in your 360. Here's a guide for flashing Samsung drives.

viewtopic.php?f=110&t=215" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't need to spoof it already works but it wont read the disks well probably because their scratched or something. But it can read my old xbox disks.

if you are replacing a benq with a samsung you will HAVE to spoof the firmware in the samsung or it will not work

You have to dump the firmware from both your drives, insert the KEY from your original firmware into the firmware from the new drive and then spoof it so it will report as the original drive. If you don't do this there are two things that can happen.

1. You will get an error message after booting your 360.

2. It will boot normally, but won't play 360 games but will play DVD movies and original xbox1 games that are on the backwards compatibility list.

Sounds like your seeing option number 2 there.

What exactly is broke about it? As long as the circuit board works thats all you need to be able to dump the firmware from it.
