So, my problem (this time ) is I bricked a dvdrom. The comp crashed while flashing. So, I bought a new dvd rom. The same version as the old one. A Hitatchi 47DJ. So, what I am looking to do is, "activate" the new dvd rom. How can I do that?
I have looked around, but not found anything that really hit the spot. And I am guessing that when I have replaced the dvd Rom, I can just flash normally?

man you need to wait for sadalius on this one.
the hit drive key does not get erased when you do a flash.
so if you do a restore on that new dvd drive it will still have the old key(if any) and will give you a firmware error when you turn on the console.
on the hit drive all you are flashing or restoring isn the firmware its self.the key is not messed with.

You would have to have to drive key from your bricked drive for you to be able to replace it. Do you have a dump of the firmware from the bricked drive? If so, open the firmware with firmware toolbox and copy the key. Paste the key into notepad and save it on your desktop or something. Then dump the firmware from your new drive. You might want to make a copy of the firmware and save it somewhere. Open the firmware from the new drive with firmware toolbox, then open your notepad file and copy the key from the old drive. Then paste it into the key box in firmware toolbox and click the replace key button. If you want hacked firmware then click tools -> smart hack patcher. Click ok on the box that pops up next. Then on the next box, choose an output file name and save location and make sure the rule set matches the drive that you have (the good one) and click generate file. It will ask you if you want to open the files, choose yes. Make sure that your key still matches that of the old drive. If you need to spoof the drive, now is the time to do that. You only need to spoof the firmware if the drive you are replacing is a different version than what your replacing it with. Example would be replacing a hitachi 47 with a hitachi 59. The 59 firmware would need to report as a 47 before it would work. If you need to spoof click tools -> Spoof Firmware and choose the drive that you are replacing and click apply spoof.
After you get this far, you are ready to flash your new drive with your prepared custom firmware. Click tools -> direct drive flash -> flash keys. On the box that pops up, you should be able to leave everything set the way it comes up so click the start flashing button. This will flash the keys from your old drive to the new firmware. If you had to spoof the firmware, click tools -> direct drive flash -> flash ID string then click the start flashing button. If you did not have to spoof your firmware then you can skip that step. The last step is to flash the remainder of the firmware by clicking tools -> direct drive flash -> differential patch. On the box that comes up, click on read and detect differences then click start flashing. Once its done, your ready to try it out.
This goes without saying, your hitachi would need to be in mode b, either by connectivity kit or slax disk, before it will dump or flash the firmware.
Did my Hit 47 this morning and it worked great. I ordered my new hit 47 from some place in Hong Kong. It cost me $50.00 with shipping and everything. I followed what you wrote ,for the most part Sadalius, and it all went real smooth.
