The fan of my laptop is working fine, but still my laptop gets VERY hot after a few min when using it and it shuts down at times because of this. Why is this and what can I do to sort this problem out?

yes like cofree said you will have to open up the laptop, look for guides on google on how to open it up. make sure you clean the heat sink, clean the fan and when you remove it get a thermal paste ( artic silver 5 ) reapply the thermal paste on the cpu or if there is a fan on the gpu asswell, and put the heat sink and everything back and it will work just fine.

Best thing to do is to go to hp.com and download the service and maintenance guide for your model. That should give you instructions on how to get at the CPU and other things.

Buy a cooling pad they are like 25 bucks, that sould do it...and the reason it is shutting down is because the cpu get to hot and more laptops have a safety feature on them, that make them turn off when overheating so no physical damage is done to the pc...I had a averatec c3500 tablet that did that all the time once i bought the cooling pad it stop...can of air to like the guys said....
