Passkey no longer Required
http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?PHP ... ic=10102.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Good News!!!!!
Not quiet a soft unlock but close enough
http://rs117.rapidshare.com/files/13443 ... Unlock.rar" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Turorial:
1. Unrar the file
2. Burn the CD Image, I used ImgBurn....
3. Put 79 in Mode B
3. Insert the CD in the 79 and play the track, wait for it to finish...
4. Then press play again and straight away pause it, you should hear some noise
5. Eject the disk, using the eject button not the PC ( it does something different)
6. Run the the command in a command window
Unlock79 h
// where h is the drive letter of the 79
// this will error regardless, ignore the error
7. If all went well bit 4 of (0x5BD) should be set and the drive should be unlocked
8. Drive will dump and flash with Toolbox...
9. This is a tempory unlock, (0x5BD) is in RAM and would need to be done each time you power the drive, although I've posted how to by pass this with the drive unlocked with a passkey.....
10. Has not been extensively tested but worked on 6 drives to day so far...
Thanks to OggyUK, mp3boy, Antman1 with the testing.... Also RKO Pheonix needs a mention as he unwittingly leant his 360 to Oggy today.... and Seventhson for the help early on and his fabulous blog
..............Details to follow... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I havn't tested this yet but it looks well

It sounds like you unrared the iso. Disable the "hide extensions for known file types in windows" option through windows explorer. You can access it through tools-->folder options-->view in Windows. Uncheck the box then click apply. Check the extension. If it's an iso, simply burn the iso with ImgBurn or your favorite burning software. If it's not an iso, copy and paste all the files you extracted and burn a UDF/ISO CD with Nero.

thats not correct for this 1 m8...
it's a .bin file with .cue & .cdt >>
must be burnt from the ".cue" file & the author used imgburn.

it's a modified .wav that works to defeat the bitlock... burn the "image" using the cue file
you also need slax to put the drive in modeB
the other files are for running the command:
unlock79 h
(change h to your hitachi drive letter) / after you have run the audio disc
do this by opening dos prompt & CD (change directory) to dir you unpacked files - eg.
cd c:\79_unlock
then >> unlock79 h
(change h to your hitachi drive letter)
process as I understand it is :
- slax to modeB
boot into windows
run the audio cd // follow procedure for play then replay & emediatly pause
eject the disc via switch on drive (not pc eject)
open dos prompt, cd to dir of unpacked files & run command > unlock79 h (change h to your hitachi drive letter)
if success
proceed to firmware toolbox for dumping & flashing

Wow this is amazing news...all in one day. If I understood correctly, the Hitachi V79 is now flash'able with no passkey?--and no soldering? Has the flash been done yet successfully? (I've owned 2 360s that had the V79 which I had to sell!)

yes... before the xploit was released it was tested on 6 units with success...
obviously it has been tested by alot more now & various reports are coming in - this does work
I don't have a v79 anymore but more will certainly come my way again as I'm sure they will for others.
Major Kudos for podger & all that helped him develop & test this.

what kind of disk shoud you use dvd+r dl or cd or dvd?
Also if you change your directory in dos to h: than type unlock h comand the other unlock files are on the desktop how does it know where they are it is going to look for the unlock file on the h drive

cdr
you don't change dir to the cd - you change dir to the folder (directory) where you unpacked the archive (zip)...
after you have run the audio cd you just burnt
- so.. for example // unzip the files to >> c:\79unlock
then open dos prompt & >> cd c:\79unlock
"basic dos"
then > unlock79 h (replace h with the drive letter asscoaited with the hit79)
check textbooks vid tut -
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=2303" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
it's pretty much hits the spot

Do we have anyone from our board that has any experience with this yet? I would really like to hear some feedback on how difficult the process is etc. Sure would like to get my hands on one!

I can now confirm that this works. Done one this morning before I came to work. It's not hard at all. Just an extra step in the process. Boot with slax for mode b, reset PC and boot to windows. Put wav file cd in hitachi drive. Play it, the start playing again, immediately hit pause. Open a command prompt and change to the folder where the unlock files are and in my case I typed 79unlock F and hit enter. I got the all done message. Took out that wav file cd and put in a DVD movie, opened up toolbox and away I went. Easy peazy lemon squeezy!!
I used a connectivity kit and when you eject the hitachi, use the connectivity kit or 360 eject, don't eject from the PC.

Cool man, always on the cutting edge!

Glad to know its confirmed by one of us. Not that I doubted it, but I just like first hand info.
