I'm going to kick it out the window

Ok the BENQ goes all the way to 'Reading bank 0...' and then stops. It does not progress any futher. I've used iprep v006 and dosflash 16.

Card is SY-VIA-150R (http://microcenter.com/single_product_r ... id=0246248).

Following the tutorial gets me to the reading bank 0... stage and then it will not do anything else...

Is my motherboard important? I thought the card was all that mattered...

It's 5:30pm I've been working on this since 10pm last night.

its rare but some times the mobo can cause problems.
i dont know that card.i could not see the chipset.
it must be a VIA6421 sata card.
http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm
it works almost every time.99.9%

yeah it is a 6421 VIA chipset. my mobo is intel...so you don't think its my via card then? also, this card is RAID enabled, do I need to disable the RAID?

heres a pic of the box http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/ ... C02576.jpg

I know that's not that helpful but someone else linked it and said it worked

that chipset is the one you need.i dont know that card but it should work i would think.

you have tried all the plug on the sata card right

no the raid should not matter

when you made your iprep you check mtk right
and you made sure the sata raid controller was in the window right

did you get the iprep from here.im thinking download it again and start over.
it should not stop there.
if you have tried all that then i would say try a different sata card and/or a different computer
sorry about that thats all i can think of

I have a pos card like that... I dont trust that china town packaging that it has. Actually that card looks like it has more bells and wistles than mine. I have this one ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815124022 ) and its garbage. The solder is chipped in some areas. I cant even get me hdd to boot with it! It just doesnt work. Tried it with 3 computers. I would recomend getting a new card

Yeah, thats the same card that I have, but like sccrbrandon478, I bought mine from Newegg, it's done everything that I've thrown at it.

Not sure what type of computer your using to do your project, but I use an old POS system with an intel chipset, runs an intel PII 500 MHZ SLOT processor if that tells you anything about it's age, and it has a whopping 128 MB of memory. Before you ask, yes, it's to old to boot USB devices, so I use floppy disks.

Getting stuck at reading the first bank is kind of a unique problem that here lately, I've been seeing alot of it. There is alot that can cause the problem, but they are hardware issues non-the less. How do I know they are hardware issues, well because your booting into dos mod. Unless there is some windows driver that can load in DOS mode, you shouldn't even have any drivers except for the sata loaded. You might try un-hooking other bits of hardware, or maybe even try the card in a different computer, if you have that option available to you.

Intel board

Cool, thanks all. I'll try some more stuff...It really sucks the benq's look so damn easy to do but for the life of me this thing will not get past that reading bank...

I would try another card if I was sure it'd work but this one does respond to my turning the box on and off during the process, the thing toggles before it is supposed to read the bank.

Could the thumbdrive matter....the one I'm using is an amazing 64mb

Insignificant perhaps but the power light on the 360 flashes green constantly when the bank reading begins. It doesn't do this at any other time.

I'll post a video of me smashing my failed attmept to flash the gaybox 360 later.

The rumbdrive shouldn't matter. And the green light flashing, from what I understand is normal. I've never flashed a 360 using the 360 to power it, I always use a seperate power supply, but I know other people that have used the 360 as the power supply and they say that if the light don't blink, somethings wrong.

I have a connectivity kit that I use for hitachis, I could try it on the BENq but its not going to go into ModeB (obviously) so I wonder if it would even power it?

Well, the Benq doesn't have mode b like the hitachi's, it does have it's own type of debug mode thats reached much like the samsungs with the turn it off and wait a few seconds trick. But, yes, the connectivity kit will power the Benq, or any other drive for that matter. Thats what I use to flash the drives that I work on. Since I have a version 1 connectivity kit, I also use a seperate AT power supply, the old one with a power switch so I can turn the drive on and off with.

Cool I'll try that, I'd rather tinker with solely the drive than the whole xbox apparatus. So If I'm using connectivity kit v2 I would leave the onboard ModeB switch up (off), and the onboard Eject switch up (off)? Then I could use the onboard on-off switch to feed power to the drive.

I think my via 6142 controller should work fine, it dumped my hitachi and it at least responds to the Benq... Iprep recognizes the Sata controller as VIA 6142 in the drop-down box.

Something occured to me- Is the fact that it toggles the drive status in dos as a result of turning the power on/off, but freezes on 'reading bank 0...' a sign that it recognizes drive power but not the controller? I would think that might be the case because it is freezing on a 'reading' stage.

Heres the card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815124023
People say it works

Thanks again.
