Apple has released version 2.2 of it's iphone/ipod touch firmware. Those that are considering upgrading and wanting to jailbreak and/or unlock with 2G or 1G devices can do so with either quickpwn or pwnage tool. If you have a 3G iphone it is suggested to use only pwnage tool if you plan on being able to utilize any future unlock solutions.
I updated my ipod touch this morning. I had problems using quickpwn for MAC. After several failed attempts, I tried on a windows machine and it worked first time round. I suspect I just wasn't getting DFU mode right for some reason. The quickpwn process is pretty painless. First upgrade your device to the official firmware, then use quickpwn to modify the installation. You will have to have the 2.2 restore file though.
