First of all, if this is the wrong area to ask, I apologize, but it seemed the most fitting for my question. I've spent the better part of the evening trying to flash my Benq drive, and after a lot of searching, thought I knew what to do. I have 1 of 2 issues, when I run iprep to set up my usb drive, I get a message telling me that drive A needs to be closed and can't be made bootable, but that isn't even the drive I'm supposed to be formatting. I cancel out, and it goes about finishing the boot. Then when I go into the bios upon restart and set it to boot from usb, the iprep software never boots, and I'm left at a windows 98 dos screen (I believe) with simple the C:/ prompt. Is there something specfic I'm doing wrong, or am I simply too much of a newb to handle this?

when you boot on a iprep boot flash you will see the window 98 screen.
that is fine as long as it move on to the iprep screen.

well the "A" drive i would guess is your floppy drive.
hell
try it on a floppy just to see if you can get a dump.
dont go on to flashing on a floppy.
unless you are sure its working good.

after the dump it will take a few min to start firmtool and build your hacked firmware.
so even when it say reboot "DON'T" wait till your hacked firmware is built.
also
firmtool will not run if there are other sata drives hooked up.
so after you power down the computer unhook the /if any sata cd/dvd or sata HD drives.

at that point stop and reboot in windows to check foe a good key in the firmware with firmware toolbox.
and
make a copy of the firmware for safe keep.
if you lose the orig key its game over for the console.
so make a copy of the "ofw"
put it somewhere off your computer.

Problem is I don't actually have a floppy drive, though apparently my pc detects a virtual one regardless, which I read was normal. It never moves on to the iprep screen though, it simply leaves me hanging at the C:/ prompt. Do I need to disconnect all my drives before I can even get the computer to run iprep at restart?

Try checking your BIOS settings for a floppy drive, and disable anything you come across

Make sure you select your USB drive in Iprep. You can set the program running, then plug your flash in, iprep should automaticallyask if you want to use that drive...

Power down, disconnect all your drives then boot into DOS with Iprep

Goo instructions lilrevuk, that was going to be my suggestion, disabling the floppy in the BIOS.

I am also having issues flashing my benQ. As soon as D1 starts flashing I turn on my drive and i get the message

"An internal stack overflow has caused the session to be halted. Change the STACKS in your CONFIG.SYS file, and try again."

I am using a on board SATA port on what i believe is an ASUS mobo. I think the SATA controller is VIA though.

Very confused and wish it would work flawlessly as in the directional video...

try a different usb flash
and getting this card would be a good idea.

i got rid of that message and but now it just wont dump. The banks aren't reading. So i guess that card is required.

Does it matter that I am using the Blaster 360 NE?

if it's the first time you have flashed the drive, I would remove the blaster, and hook it up once you have it cracked...

With your SATA, check the settings in your BIOS, ensure (if there are any settings) SATA mode is set to SATA and not RAID... It might be that the chipset doesn't want to play, I've had that myself with benqs on Intel chipsets (stuck at D1)...

Yea I did all that. I go to dump and it starts flashing D1 turn off then on and nothing just flashes or stays on D1. The card is on its way. I'm done wasting my time, I am just going to do it the right way and be done. Thanks for all your help.

that could also be the usb flash doing that man.
you could try a different one.

I had the same problem with an intel chipset, didn't matter what i did, it just wouldn't flash...

The card will sort it

erm.. yep get the card

but.. just on a side note - u need to unplug all other sata devices
sometimes it depends on the setup // unplug everything else to maximise compatibility

sometimes also you need to change the routine from what iprep describes with it's built in instructions

for example / on nvidia chipsets
I leave the drive on when it instructs you to turn it off - this takes it to the next stage

So I got my VIA card and still no go. it either stays on 0x7F or flashes D1 and 80. tried every port on the card. Starting to get very confused. I am going to try a new flash drive. How does it make a difference what flash drive i use?

well it sure can mater
some just will not work.
if you have a floppy drive that you know works you could try it also.
make sure if you get a firmware dump
to check the (ofw) orig firmware with firmware toolbox for a good key and back up your firmware.
then if you have a good key go to the flash.
