Hi Guys, I have just repaired an elite for a pal (E74) and now the crappy 79 drive has died.I have a spare hitachi 59 lying around and was wondering, will i have to spoof the firmware to 79 as well as replacing the key? Thanks in advance

you have to do better than that man.
go into what you had
what you have done
and
what you want to do.
any dvd drive that goes in a 360 console has to have the orig"key" in the firmware.
if the dvd drive you want to put in the console is not the same drive that came in the console then you have to spoof the firmware so it will report as the orig dvd drive.

In order to pull this off, you will need to dump the firmware of the 79 drive. You need that firmware key to inject into the 59 firmware. Then yes, you would then need to spoof the drive to report as a 79 drive.

Thanks guys, i know my post was a bit empty last night but was getting tired. i already have a copy of the 79 firmware, as it was one of the first i done using the new unlock cd. I think what i was trying to ask was would the 59 need to be spoofed as a 79 even though they are same manufacturer. This has been answered in sadalius' reply. Thinking about it now it does seem obvious to me that it needs to be spoofed

.I will dump the 59, inject the key and spoof. I presume it doesn't matter which way round i do it, spoof 1st or key 1st? Thanks for your reply's guys. Can't wait for iXtreme 1.5. Then will be doing this all again

No, the order in which you put the key in or spoof isn't important. It's the flashing that counts. Everything needs to be done prior to flashing the firmware to your drive.
