Benq upgrading first time need help

Hi guys. Thanks for what you do.
I did the 1.41 ixtreme installation and it works fine.
I want to upgrade to 1.5
I read a lot of stuff and over but upgrading seems a bit confusing. I was mostly following textbooks method.
This is all for a BenQ drive.
What i did, since i have a via chipset is simply take the cfw i got from xbins, the newer one 1.5 renamed it
and placed it in the old cfw folder on the usb bootable drive, renamed to BenQ-CFW.bin . I then booted up, ran dBen and it says files already exist, firmware for that serial already exists and aborts, but then instead of coming here and asking
about the issue, I went ahead and ran fBen (serial) and it works, it erased and wrote the firmware , at least thats what
it says. However, I'm not sure if the drive was correctly updated. Thats what i want to ask you guys,
how can i find out if its really upgraded? Can i delete the old files on the usb stick and then do dBen and
it will read the files on the drive and it will tell me if the drive is working correctly?
I still have backups of my originals that i got from the first installation if i need to restore. let me know if thats what i have to do. Thank you.
I did put it back into the xbox 360 and test it and its working with the games but im scared of what i did.
this is my first upgrade so im a little nervous and unsure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If its working with backups and originals, you should be fine. But in your post, you made no mention of opening your original firmware with firmware toolbox and getting the key and then opening the 1.5 firmware and injecting your key into it. If you didn't do this, there is no way your 360 will play any games what so ever. But as long as you put your key for the original drive into the new firmware and then flashed it, you should be good to go.

Yes, this is what confused me. I don't know how the new firmware which i checked with firmware toolbox being 1.5, is getting the new key from the old firmware. I didn't do it manually, i simply renamed and replaced how it said in the textbook tutorial, ran dBen, fBen and then tested it and it worked. but it seems to weird to me. I feel like i completely missed an important step. So thats why im afraid I might still have the old firmware? but does firmtool write the firmware from the backups folder or the root cfw folder? lol, im sorry if this is so trivial, i just want to make sure.

well if you run it in iprep
when you ran the dben to dump the drive
after it dumped the drive fir tool run and built your "cfw" with your key in it.
the when you run fben it flash THAT new "cfw in
not the one that did not have your key.
that would be my guess

Thanks guys.
I only ran iprep once with the original firmware upgrade to 1.41 after that the textbook tut said i didn't need to again, so i never did lol. don't know if this was outdated advice, but i followed it. It seems to be working so far, so im going to keep using it the way it is lol. hopefully i did everything correctly.
assuming if the firmware it flashed doesn't have a drive key, it won't play anything at all and it does, imma go with the idea that wen i replaced the cfw, i ran dben, found original, took that info, put it into the new firmware to flash, then fben the new firmware and then the new info is just there. lol. If it really is that easy, then i guess i just fooled myself into thinking it was soo hard that I was def going to break it and mess it up and its the first time i did it, so im overly nervous about it.
Although i wont' go around recommending it to everyone since it does involve a lot of patience and time to read through a lot.
I honestly have better time with soldering like other consoles. It just makes sense, diagram and bam. software can be so tricky sometimes.

if i was you man
i would start over with a new iprep boot flash
build it with the v1.5 benq.
then just do a dump and stop right after firmtool runs and buildes the firmware.
then power down, reboot in windows and check the "ofw" with firmware toolbox and see what firmware is in it.
if it wont load the firmware in then it v1.5
if it loads in the firmware then you will be able to see what is in it.
if need be boot back on the flash and fben the new v1.5 in.
you need to be running the v1.5 firmware.

Hey
thank you so much.
I followed your lead.
I ran iprep fresh, with a usb flash drive. the first one i tried didn't work, some memory error so it wouldn't boot up right. weird, cuz i used it to boot up into windows a lot, but for some reason with iprep it didn't go. Finally found a usb stick that worked. I couldn't use iprep 8, i used 6.2.
6.2 started giving me a no valid firmware loaded, then i ran update, still same problem, restarted program, still same problem. restarted computer, same problem. i replaced the ixdef in the /resources/ folder with the one from xbins for firmware 1.5 and still same problem. I went out for a drink, cause i couldn't take it no more. than i came back, tried it again, it loaded the firmware fine, well gee, finally.
prepared usb stick, got memory error, replaced usb stick, got memory error lol.
i risked it anyway , error or not with the usb stick and the first stick didn't boot into DOS, second stick booted into DOS.
i ran dBen "1234567 12345" <- example, and it read it and created new firmware.
shut everything down, plugged usb stick into computer, ran firmware tool, checked both firmwares inside the backup folders. One was the old firmware labeled ofw.bin and another file the current hacked firmware named cfw.bin. The old one was 1.41 ixtreme with the correct key , and the new one was 1.5 with the same key as 1.41 so correct. I compared these to the original firmware i saved from my initial flashing.
I went back , started up pc/360, at prompt, typed y, turned off 360
typed fBen "1234567 12345" <- example, and pressed enter, typed y, turned on 360 and it erased the firmware on the drive, restarted 360 and it wrote the new firmware into the drive. all i saw left was data sum "something"
then c:\>
I shut everything down and I went back to pc, checked firmware with firmware toolbox and it was the same as before.
I plugged xbox 360 and it reads the games and movies. working great.
I wrote this all out in hope it will help those who are as confused as i was. I guess there is probably a short way to do this somewhere, but i couldn't understand it so oh wellz. this method works. good luck to all of you. thank you for helping me out. cool forums you got here.

There is a shorter way, you can just do it all in jungleflasher. Ive updated a sammy and a benq that way.
