Flashing liteon with Maximus Xtractor

Hey, I'm in the US and had a hard time finding the CK3 anywhere so I had to order the Xtractor tool instead. Anyway, I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I flash my liteon drive. Basically flashing involves two main steps: extracting the key and putting the firmware on, right?
So to extract the keys, I could follow this tutorial:
http://www.maximusgames.net/360xtractor.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Then to flash I could follow the second part of this tutorial:
http://www.360patches.com/N00B_LiteOn_F ... th_VIA.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Is that it? Thanks.

No need to follow the tutorial on the xtractor site.
Just do everything in Jungleflasher

go through our tutorial section and read the lite-on jungle flasher tutorial. If you have a via sata card, watch the video on recovering through DOS if your PC freezes after doing the erase. Make sure you have your key, identity and inquiry bin files and that they are correct before you attempt to flash the drive.

In order to get the key, you have to uninstall the via drivers. What happens when the PC freezes after the erase and you try to recover it in DOS? Do you have to reinstall the drivers? Also, do you need a RS232 to do the recovery?

Actually I think I'll just do everything in Iprep, seems much easier because I have the Via card.

I think there is a problem with iprep right now. You don't have to uninstall the VIA drivers to get the key and such. What could happen is when you go to erase the drive, it could freeze up on you and then you'd have to do it through dos. I don't know how many people have had problems with the freezing. I did mine through jungleflasher and it worked the first several times. But then started freezing up on me. I changed my configuration around a little and it works pretty good now.

What kind of problem with IPrep? Downloading it, flashing with it? I watched cofree's video and it seemed like it works, but if not I'll stick to jungleflasher.
Also with the freezing- what kind of Sata card do you have?

The problem with iprep has something to do with the serial numbers in the firmware not being correct or something. I'm not real sure, it has something to do with dosflash and since iprep is now 100% based on dosflash, its susceptible to the bug. They are working on a new dosflash right now though. The type of problem it is, you won't notice it while flashing.
I use a VIA 6421a sata card.

What other way? Jungle flash then dosflash (cause I'm pretty sure mine will lock up)?

Ok cool. Just one question. Do you need the RS232 cable or no, I can't see from the video.

Ok, so I'm about to start flashing in iPrep. A couple questions though before I actually do it.
1) Do I need the PortIO drivers installed?
2) I'm connecting the RS232- how do I find out what COM port that is connected to?
3) Does the Xtractor get power from the PC through the molex connector? If so, I don't have an area on my PC that can connect by molex... what the heck do I do?

If your going to flash through iprep which would be using DOS, you won't need the portio32.
If your using a serial cable, which you'll have to if your going to use DOS to flash with, depends on which serial port you connect it to. There are generally two ports, you'll have to consult info on your computer to figure out which one is which. If you only have one serial port, by default it should be set to com1.
Yes, the xtractor requires a molex connector for power. What type of power connectors do you have?? If you only have sata, you'll need one of two things. Either an adapter to convert the sata power plug into a molex connector or a seperate AT style power supply. Or you could use the USB port in windows and use the xtractor software to get the keys and such and then use iprep to do the flashing.
