Drive Key

Post by BobSeager »

New chip on the way. It's a solderless ribbon-interface like the flatmii. drivekey.com

The difference between flatmii and drivekey? drivekey functions just like a modchip, flatmii streams backups from your computer but will not play disc backup games.

yeah, I agree. A chip that has full backup playing abilities and all you have to do is plug it into the DVD drives ribbon cable and then connect another cable to the drive and your done. How easy does that sound. I wonder about upgrades and things of that nature.

Anyone else think the drivekey website looks suspiciously like the wiikey colors and font :?

Not that that's a bad thing, my wiikey has been great

Could be a rip off too. Thats always possible given the amount of counterfeit modchips that are out there.

they updated the image of the 'chip' on their website. Dunno what's going on, still no real information available. Maybe this is a final design gearing up for production...would hope so.

wiinewz reports the image as a picture of a production run drive key chip. But the image was submitted by the drive key team, so who knows for sure.

Yeah, it would be nice!! Very nice indeed. I'm still wondering what exploit they found that allows this to work, along with the flatmii and others like it.

It's here... :?

It IS made by the wiikey folks. And you DO just have to plug it in to play your backups...apparently drive speed is limited to x2. I'm not really sure I care if game loading is a bit slower given how easy this is. But, I dunno if that would render some games incorrectly or not (especially during cut sequences).

~$70-$80

Check drivekey.com for lots and lots of stuff

have a look at the drive key.

this is posted at one of the distributors site:::

The first batch has arrived however has been recalled due to a programming. The manufacturer has just e-mailed us it will most likely take another week before another batch ships to distributors so it should be available the first week of February.

I meant to post a video yesterday, but I got side tracked from testing the new jungleflasher.

The drivekey looks very cool and what makes it cool is the way it installs. It would be nice to have a method like this for all consoles, well except for the handhelds, that might be a little tough.
