Okay, I have already flashed two BenQ drives so I know the basics. I need a COM cable of some sort to mod the Lite-on drive.
I saw this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XBOX-360-RS232-to ... 240%3A1318on eBay, i'm not sure if it's what I need or I just need one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-TO-RS232- ... 240%3A1308 I have the Sata Via Chipset but I have no idea where i'm supposed to plug it or if I need to buy anything else for my PC. Thanks :D P.S. sorry about the lengthy URL's i'm not sure how to shorten them down, I don't usually post on Forums :\

It looks like that 232 adapter has a probe added to it, so yeah you would be able use that...

with the cable in the other link, you'll only be able to use Jungleflasher. Iprep is a no go (no DOS drivers for USB)

Thank you for the reply, but I'm still not 100% sure as to what I need to buy.
Do I need to buy the COM thing to put into my PC and then what else? Where do I plug the other end of the COM wire- because the HDD don't have a port for it. I really don't understand what I need to do and buy. If someone could give me an eBay link or ANY link to what I need to buy or a list of things I need to buy and a quick tutorial explaining what I need to do would be excellent, I live in the UK though (Nottingham, to be precise ;)) so shops you might have over in the US I might not have access to thank you so much.

If your computer doesn't have built in com ports, and a lot of newer ones don't, you'll either have to use a ck3 pro kit with jungleflasher in windows to get your key, identity and inquiry files. Then you can use dosflash to finish it. Or you can purchase the cable along with a RS232 PCI card and do it through iprep with the rest of the equipment that you listed above.

if you use a probe of some kind then no.
if you dont than yes you have to solder the r707 point in the dvd drive.

That's a nifty little CK3 Probe. With one of those you don't need to solder at all to extract the key and then flash a Lite-On?

P.S. CoFree, sorry to hear of your accident with the CK3 upside-down power source.

With the probe there is no soldering required at all. Wonderful bit of magic there isn't it?

Thanks Sadalius. I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but could you either point me to another thread where all the hardware components needed to flash the Lite-On are listed, or could you briefly tell me what hardware is needed? (I already have an Xecuter Connectivity Kit V2 and a vt6421A, if those can be used.)

Thanks

man you need this.
http://www.modchip.ca/store/product.php ... 284&page=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or this
http://www.modchip.ca/store/product.php ... 284&page=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i know it sucks to have to buy more stuff.
then you will use iprep v008.8
and have a look at this.

Thanks CoFree. Which one should I get, the Lite or the Pro? (Modchip is sure cheaper than ConsoleSource!)

Best Regards

If you have a computer that has good working serial ports, then I would recommend getting the lite version. Then you can use the latest iprep to get the key, identify and inquiry files and create the hacked firmware and flash it all with iprep and not have to worry about your via card locking up on the erase with jungleflasher.

If your computer is like my home computer and doesn't have serial ports, then I would recommend getting the PRO version. This is because it has a serial to USB converter so you can plug the CK3 in a USB port and get the key, identify and inquiry files through Jungleflasher, create your hacked firmware. But I wouldn't recommend erasing the drive with jungleflasher with a via card. Instead I would build a bootable USB flash drive with iprep and put the custom firmware in the DOS folder that comes with ixtreme 1.5 and copy that folder onto the flash drive. Then boot to it and change to the DOS directory and use doshflash to erase and flash the drive. CoFree has a video on using dosflash in the tutorials section titled recovering a lite-on after freezing or something similar to that.
