I got my 360 in '05 and my friend had it flashed for me. . . since then the 360 reads the backups but its struggles to read it and i have to keep ejecting and powering down for it to eventually read. well i recently learned how to mod 360s. . . good looking out cofree! and i was wondering if i could reflash it and if so will that make it stop struggling. . . ?

Disk read problems that appear over a period of time generally means the laser is getting weak or may just need to be cleaned. In fact that would be the first thing that I would try would be cleaning the laser. If that didn't help then I would either replace the laser or replace the drive. If you replace the drive, you'll have to dump your old drive to get the DVD key from the firmware and inject it into the firmware of the new drive and then flashed. If it's a different drive than the one you have already, it'll have to be spoofed as well.
The fact that it will read on occasion shows that the firmware is working. If it was a firmware problem, it would never read and more than likely show an error to reflect a firmware problem through the 360 when you powered it on.

it actually didn't happen over a period of time, when i got the 360 back from being flashed it struggled with reading backups from the very beginning but it worked every now and then, and i didn't really play games as much then as i do now so now its just annoying. . . im going to try the laser cleaning option and then if that doesn't work look into getting another drive, i have a samsung drive. . .
will iprep work with dumping the old drive and then flashing the new one?
