Hiya vista and welcome along. The tutorials are here :
viewforum.php?f=110" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have a look through the one that corresponds to your drive (if its new the chances are its either a Benq or a Liteon) and any questions post them up.

If you take the fascia plate off just below where the dvd tray is there should be a hole (on the right just under the tray itself). Shine a torch in and see what colour wires you have. If they're yellow its a Liteon and either Grey or White indicates a Benq.

hey man what does the tray look like from inside.
this one

or

if none of above then i guess you will have to open it up to fully identify the drive

Well the good news is you won't have to use a probe/solder etc as the benq doesn't need it just the Liteon so that's a bonus. There are a couple of software options available to you if you decide to flash it. I tend to use iprep for benq's but some prefer Jungleflasher. Although technically you don't need a connectivity kit or similar to flash the drive the general consensus is that it's a safer option as there has been some debate if Microsoft is able to tell if the drive has been hooked up to the motherboard while flashing. The safest option would be to invest in a ck3 or similar then it might come in handy in the future if you decide to do any more.

Thats the one mate. Cofree is using a usb stick formatted and made bootable with iprep v008.8

Download available here:
viewtopic.php?f=112&t=48" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also you need to have dot.net framework installed into your pc
Available from the same download page as above

and the ixtreme 1.5 firmware to load into the iprep program.

yip, you need to have it connected through a sata cable (either onboard if compatiable or a pci sata card like the Via vt6421a) and preferably an external power source like the ck3 or alternative just to be safe (although you can use your 360 to power it but not really recommended)
