Problem reading backups with 1.5

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if something in the 1.5 firmware has changed as to what media it can read? I have a Benq that was able to read all of my backups using 1.4 but now that i have flashed in 1.5 hardly any of my backups work with my drive. I have taken my backup to a friend who is still running 1.4 on his Benq and he has no problems with it. I receive Unreadable disk error within a minute of it playing. Any solutino to this or is my drive going bad?
Thanks in advance.

that is odd
i have not had any trouble other than some lite-on dvd drive being picky
if i was you i would flash back to 1.4 and see if all your backup games would play.
if they will
you have got something odd going on.

Well i did as you suggested and flashed back to 1.4. I actually used iPrep 8.8 to restore back to 1.4, still the same problem though. Is it possible that my drive is dying down?

Hackedit, I think I had(have) the same problem as you. My BenQ drive isn't what it used to be. If you anted to you could check inside the drive and clean the laser with Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol along with a q-tip. I did that and it helped a little bit. If anything your drive as you said might be wearing out. How long have you had that drive?

Cleaning it was the first thing i did when i came to this issue. I have had my system for a little over a year. it was shipped to me as a replacement for my original RROD system. Ill probably just spoof in another drive or wait till it dies completely and buy a RROD off of craiglist.

If you experience a grinding sound or laser movement repeatedly, it might be worth it just to flash to 8x on IX 1.4, (it helps read the games better)or just buy another drive. I know I will be buying a new BenQ soon.

Luckily no grinding noises as of yet. i dont think a slower read speed would help me much with this problem, wouldn't that just cause it to hang even sooner? Also where do you find replacement drives on the usual websites? Ebay craiglist etc?

Mine makes a grinding noise, but CoFree said that 8x speed makes the drive work less so it can read the discs better. I will flash to 8x when it comes out for IX 1.5
If i were buying a new drive I would check ebay, or another site. I would buy mine from ebay...but thats just me.

the 8x speed could help.
It will take a little longer to load at times
ive not heard much about benq giving trouble.
all of mine are running great.

I wonder if it has to do with how long you've had the drive, and then flashing...hmm

i dont see how that would matter

What i meant to say was that the reading backups is harder on the laser, and maybe its that time where his drive isnt what it used to be.

sounds like the laser is weak or something.
what media were/are you using in that benq ? i hope they verbs.
you can try an adjusting the pot, i think that would helo atleast for awhile.
but in the end i would either replace the laser or get another drive, those would be the best solutions in this case i think.
good luck.

Ok well i think i have fixed my problem, no more cheap media in my Benq EVAR. I've been using Sony disks for my backups but no longer i think i got a bad batch but will never use them again since their quality control seems to be lacking. Luckily i found a place to get Verbs 20 for about $25. Not to shabby.
