I am running vista. I am trying to flash a ms28. after it reads the dump it says error sam-ofw.bin not found, and the firmtool doesn't start. Then, when I restart my computer and check usb drive there is a sam-ofw.bin on the drive. any ideas?
Using Iprep 8.8 by the way. thanks

The reason you are getting the error is because in iPrep 008.8, the name you want to call up is SAMOFW.BIN, in iPrep 008.6, it WAS SAM-OFW.BIN. That should solve your problem. :)

p.s. same goes for SAMCFW.BIN

Thanks man that worked like a champ, but here is the thing. I just purchased it knowing it wouldnt read originals. So i tried flashing it and now it still wont read orginials or backups. Any ideas? It's a MS28 drive. It sounds like it is trying to read them but says unplayable disc. Is this drive repairable or may i purchase a drive off of internet to replace it. Thanks for all the help

Well if it wont read originals you could try cleaning the lase lens with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol- it sometimes works. Then you could try this fix..

If it won't after all of that, then I would just buy a new drive to replace, which I personally have just done. :)

I went over ejected the tray to try and clean the laser and didn't know what i was doing so plugged in the console and it read my backup of COD WAW. Tried to play it and it said unable to read disc. So I guess it is just dirty so I am headed to Wally world to buy a laser cleaner disc. I think it may be dust on the laser lens because there was dust all over the heat sink inside. Maybe this will work if it dont I will try the q-tip method if not the other. Thanks for the help I will let you all know how it works out.

to clean it right
you will need to take the dvd drive top cover off to get to the laser lens

Well guys I went to wally world but they didnt have any dvd cleaner disc but I bought a can of air let out the dvd drive and sprayed air all in the drive for about half the can. then I waited for any moisture from the can to dry put in a back up, dvd movie, burnt dvd movie, and original 360 game and it seems to work. I am going to try it tommorrow to make sure it reads with no problems then I will reassemble it. Thanks again.
