hi all

the benq i flashed is working perfectly, but i have just opened a 360 that i am doing for someone else as it has the lite-on drive

wondering how i am going to flash this, as i do not have a probe or spear.. i only have the ck3 and the via card

can anyone assist me with this drive? do i need some other hardware or can i do it with what i have?

many thanks!

you can do it with just the ck3
but
you will have to solder the r707 point on the dvd drive noard.
its kind of small ;)

so its just a case of putting a blob of solder in the 707 hole and then proceeding with your video tutorial?

wow i think i can manage that!

no that is not it

there are 2 small spots that have to be hook together.
yes you can bridge that point or solder in a small wire,
there is no solder that goes in the hole.

Try this first before you pick a spear/probe up....

It might save you a few quid ;)

Easy enough to fashion a diy one similar to these. (i used a multimeter probe spliced into the 11 wire and so far so good)

hi guys

apologies for the delay in coming back to you, been a bit busy at work :(

i think I am going to go down the solder route, I have a friend who is very skilled and should not have a problem soldering the points on the board.

I wonder if anyone could link me to a before and after picture of the solder points, as thats what my friend has asked for.

I will send him the link to the above topic to see if he thinks that would be easier, but I think we are going to try to solder the actual board.

thanks again guys, you all have been a superb help!

actually, looking at that wire it looks pretty simple...

so am i right in thinking that i once the 2 points are bridged as shown in the pic I can use the ck3 and my via card in the same way i did my benq? prepare with iprep, boot to floppy disk read, erase, write and then I am done?

if you solder the r707 point or put a small wire(very small)
then you just flash it like this.

don't really understand the multimeter splice thing, so will just go with the cable

I assume once the wire is attached to the 707 hole and the other end to the bit of solder on the board I can just proceed with iprep and the video you linked?

well you dont solder to the small hole you solder to the small pad and bridge the gap.
i will also just use solder to bridge the space in between the pads.

but
yea
after that you just go by the video.

ok, so i am just about to do the 1st step and would like someone to confirm the steps i am going to take

Can I use any conductive wire, as I do not know what KNAR wire is!?

1. open dvd drive
2. solder wire to the logic board as indicated on the picture linked from this thread
3. put the other end in the r707 hole - does it need to fill the hole completely? i assume it needs to actualyl touch something somewhere?
4. run iprep to read, erase, write as in the video
5. done!

is that really it?

ok ok ok!

my mate has just soldered the r707 and r708 points! wooooo

he has some superb soldering skills, i am so impressed!

anyway.. now I have the points soldered i can now get on with the flashing

i have an rs232 cable here.. my only remaining question is what type of cable i use.. (i do not have the ck3 here to check its at home) I have a cable here with a male end and a female end.. is this the right cable?

thanks!

yea, you can leave them bridged although you didn't have to bridge the 708 points, only the 707. also did you flash it yet? and if so, how'd you flash it without the CK3?
