Simplicity in itself and saves you a few dollars/quid.

Find something metal which is quite thin (needle, pin etc.)

Attach it to a short length of wire (preferably soldered) then insulate the join (for added grip you could place the pin inside an empty pen then tape it up, alternatively an old multimeter probe is ideal)

Splice it into wire 11 on the ck3 (top left wire if you're looking at the connector with the 2 raised splines facing up)

Once again preferably soldered then insulate

It should look something like this:



That's all there is to it. Sit back and bask in the adjulation from friends and family on a job well done.

i have the ck2 connectivity kit.could i do this diy probe to ck2?

No. There another diy kit that will work with the CK2.

you have to put the probe wire onto a wire from the ck3 so the info can get to your pc

You have to have some sort of ttl rs232 converter in order to get a lite-on done. Thats why the CK3's are so popular. They have one built into them. If you have a CK2, then you can modify it a little and get your self a ttl rs232 converter from off ebay or somewhere and in effect have a CK3, but by the time you buy a ck2 and the ttl rs232 converter, you just as well of bought a ck3. Now if you already have a ck2, then buying a ttl rs232 converter to make it work would be worth while and save some money.

Haven't bought anything yet. Still in the decision making process. Can I do this with the ck3 lite? And if so what is the diff between the lite and the pro?

Yip works fine with the Lite. The Pro version comes with the ability to use usb or can also use a standard r232 cable (bundled with the usb lead, hdd adaptor and normally a sata lead) while the Lite can only use the r232 serial cable (comes with one with a mini connector on the end)
