Samsung to Hitachi

Im going to swap my Samsung MS28 for a older Hitachi version. Im pretty sure I know how to do this but I just wanted to get some clarification before I start and potentially screw something up.
1. Select my firmware for my Hitachi (ixtreme).
2. Insert my key from my MS28 into my Hitachi firmware.
3. Spoof firmare as MS28.
4. Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Flash String ID.
5. Start flashing.
I don't have to dump the firmware of the Hitachi first before I flash it do I? I know there is another way to do this through the command prompt but the firmware toolbox looks much easier. Thanks for all your help.

Your right, firmware toolbox is the best and easiest way to go here. Just make sure to get version 4.6. This is how I would do it. Your method will work just as well so either way will work fine, just make sure to get that dump of the hitachi and save it first.
It sounds like you already have a dump of the samsung, so we won't worry to much about that.
1. Connect up your hitachi in mode b, open you firmware toobox and do a dump of the hitachi. Save a copy in case you ever wanted to restore in a seperate location.
2. Insert your key from the sammy drive.
3. Spoof as MS-28
4. Click tools and then click Smart Hack Patcher. This will automatically create your hacked firmware. Choose to verify it and open it.
5. Click tools->Direct Drive Flash and click Differential Flash (Patch) and let it flash
This way it will only flash the strings that are different and leave everything else alone. Since the flash ID string is different, it will flash that too so you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the quick response. You definately cleared up a few areas where I wasn't sure about. Now I just got to wait for the drive to get here in the mail. Now I just hope it will recognize my USB/SATA connection. I flashed a few other Hitachi drives using it, never with the firmare toolbox though. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

Alright, I finally got the drive in the mail. I have to open the firmware before I put in the key, I am guessing its the new Hitachi drive that I just dumped. I then insert the key from the Samsung and click smart patcher. It then has an output file and rule set. This is where Im getting a little confused. Is the rule set the new Ixtreme? And also, what is the output file? Thanks!
