BenQ VAD6038 flashing error when reading DVD key

Post by ObiDrunkKenobi »

I've flashed a few drives in my past but that was ixtreme 1.4 days. My buddy has a BenQ VAD6038 and i'm trying to flash this beast with no avail. I would still call myself a Noob but not helpless; i've taken the initiative to look up some answers for the past week and a half before posting this.

So here is what i've done so far:

(without reading online before hand like a idiot)

*I tried to use a older version of iprep (ixtreme 1.5) and it looked like everything went through fine but the flash did not work when i tested.
*i then tried iprep v008.8 beta (still no dice; gave me a error when going to read it something along the lines of could not get a good key or no key available.)

* i had my buddy order the CK3 PRO kit (hoping this would my saving grace)

* i tried to use jungleflash and the CK3 tool (figured it was the same stuff on each just a different interface)

* I'm using Vista and can see the drive using IO interface (*i could see it with iprep as well *on-board SATA) and when i try to get the key I'm getting "777777.....". I found someone saying i should power the drive on and open the tray halfway then power off the on again the try to get the key....but I'm still getting those 7s and i really hope i didn't mess the drive up when trying to write the first time. (BTW i do not have a bin file that has a proper key on it due to the first read didn't actually work)

I've been trying to look at a bunch of forums and no luck with a solution. I hope you kind people might be able to help me out.

BTW I don't think the drive is bricked because I'm still able to open and close it. I'd been reading that if you have a busted or bad flashed drive you will not get it to open.

Is the drive able to read Orig games and DVDs? From what i am reading it kinda sounds like you flashed the drive with a bad key. When you first did the dump it should have created an BENOFW.BIN file this is the one you should check using Firmtool. After checking this file if it reads all 7's then unfortunately your screwed since you have a bad bump and then wrote over the OG FW with a bad key. But i think someone else who is a little bit more in the knowing should be able to help out.

Yeah I'm afraid it ain't looking good if you don't have a good key from the dumps you have attempted...

The key is all that matters. The motherboard uses it to pair the drive to itself, so even if the drive is fine but doesn't have the key, it just won't work...

Dude, a 777777 key is not a valid key. If you already went through the erasing process without making sure the key was valid the drive is already bricked. It's a gonner.

Correct. Double check to make sure you don't have the original .bin somewhere and have you asked your friend if he was given the 1.4 firmware for safe keeping by chance?

Ok, So i'm gonna go home today search to see if there is the off chance that it did create a good OFW.bin file, but honestly i don't think it did. I was using iprep from the get-go cause it never had givin me issues before. I want to clarify that my buddy just got back his 360 from microsoft for his third RROD. He said F-it and he wanted to try and flash it. Sounds like he is really S.O.L.; I thought there was a way to get some info off the MOBO to get a key. I imagine that they have to get a key somehow when the replace a drive. I wasn't sure if anyone knows of a method to grab this data.

*BTW: it won't play originals nor backups. I'm glad i made it painfully clear before i started this to my friend that it could mess up his box

Any help would be awesome.
