I have a bit of a favor to ask of those that are of the experimental type. If your having trouble with jungleflasher freezing up on you and you have a VIA card, try this and report back if it worked for you. This fixed all my problems with the 1.51 JF.

Make sure you have portio32 installed. Open device manager and disable your VIA card.

Browse to X:\windows\system32\drivers and find a file called viamraid.sys, it could be a dll I can't remember for sure. Either way there is only one file named viamraid rename it to viamraid.bak or something.

Re-enable the VIA card in the device manager. It should show a yellow exclamation mark on it. Reboot your computer. Check device manager again to make sure it still has the yellow exclamation mark on it.

Try jungleflasher on all types of drives.

Remember to report back whether this works for you or not. Don't try this if you have no way of recovering drives if your PC locks up just in case or if your primary hard drive runs off your card or you have on board VIA sata controller because your computer won't be able to boot if you remove the driver and your primary hard drive is running of that controller.

This is for the more advanced guys on the site.

It is rare that we will post something like this out front
for every member to see.

We know there are some good guys on the site that maybe able to contribute
There is just so much trouble with the via and jungle
we are doing anything we can to work this out.

Removing VIA drivers (Windows XP)
NOT TO BE DONE IF YOUR MAIN HARD DRIVE IS ON VIA SATA CARD

Right Click My Computer, select properties



Click the “Hardware” tab



Then, click “Device Manager”



Navigate to “SCSI and RAID Controllers” and click the + sign to expand the list



Right Click the VIA 6421 RAID Controller (may report as 3249 if using 550b drivers or above) and
select Disable



Acknowledge the warning by clicking Yes



It should now show as disabled in Device Manager like so:



Now, to remove drivers we must navigate to where viamraid.sys is
Mine were located, and most will be: C :\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys –once
found, delete this file or rename it viamraid.bak.
Once deleted or renamed, go back to device manager using the same steps outlined above.
Find your disabled VIA 6421 Card, right click and select enable



It should now show as the image below




If so, reboot your PC
Upon reboot, verify VIA 6421 still has a Yellow Exclamation Mark in Device Manager
You have successfully removed VIA drivers from your machine

Installing PortIO32
PortIO32 is a driver and library which allows you to do low-level port IO from any programming
language which can use a DLL in Windows
Simply double click PortIO32.exe found in the JungleFlasher package and wait




Look for the confirmation message (image taken from Windows Vista)



Startup jungleflasher and keep your fingers crossed.

I'll do it tonight, I've got 3 extra BenQ drives, so no worries eh!!

yes thats how i got mine to work. the problem is after once this is all done and you reboot your via will have a next to it but if you reboot again viamraid installs itself automatically (at least for me) and it wont have a next to it so i have to do this everytime im going to plug a drive into my pc.

I think this is one of those 50/50 kind of things. Once I started to bring up Jungle Flasher my whole system would freeze instantly, every time. With the drivers installed I could at least do the intro/device. Tried this on two different BenQ drives. No dice man.

do you have a via card?

To keep it from re-installing itself, you have to take the driver out of the picture. I renamed mine to viamraid.bak and it hasn't even offered to re-install even after several reboots.

I've only done my 79 and my buddies 47 (everyone else has been too busy to bring their boxes by)

My 79 went flawlessly using Port I/O, sent raw mode B using JF, unlocked with CD using JF.

My buddies 47 was another story, my 6421 wouldn't detect over Port I/O (which also meant no raw mode B)
Connected to my OB Sata (nf 590 based)
Used mode B on the CK3
Started JF, used Win API, scanned for the drive and all went well.

Whenever I get a hold of the other drives I'll update asap.

Yeah I've got a VIA card, but my mobo is also compatible to flash most drives, that's how I've done all mine to date. I think my issues is a compatibility issues between the VIA card and the chipset on my mobo.

I have 5 360s coming in in a few minutes. I will try this method out and report back.

Look guys, I don't want to sound like an evil tyrant here. All we are looking for here is something like "hey, I tried it this way and it worked for me." or "I tried it and it still froze up." And thats it. Everything else is going to start getting deleted. period.

I really like this method for Lite-Ons since I don't have to reboot into DOS. There were no hiccups in any of the flashing procedures and overall I am pretty happy about it. I'm sorry I didn't have more of a variation in the drives for this test though.
