For the DVD-ROM drives that you can mount in your computer and case, here are the only 4 that can be flashed with the Kreon 1.00 Firmware.
The 163B and the 163A DVD Drives are SATA models, and the 162C and 162D Drives are IDE models.
-SH-D163B
-SH-D162D
-SH-D162C
-SH-D163A
Alternatively, these DVD Drives that are sometimes found in Xbox 360's can be flashed with 0800 Firmware, and essentially be mounted in windows with the use of a connectivity kit.
-VAD6038 (BenQ)
-TS-H943 (MS28)

I have a spare samsung m28 drive what Kreon firmware do i flash on it?
I have found the xtrm0800.bin from xbins in a rar named Xtreme_Package-Toshiba_Samsung.rar
do i just flash this to the drive is this the latest and best firmware for backup ripping?
Do i then just use XBC to create backups?

Yes, if you got it from xbins in that .rar that is good. Make sure to spoof, because that FW is for an ms25 but you are using an ms28. 0800 is the only FW you can dump with, so yes its up to date.
Is there any difference between IDE and sata? Quality/Price wise? I have 1 more ide port on my mobo, and another on my controller card. Then like 8 sata's open in total...

all done XBC does see the drive but when i insert a disk it shows up as 4TB
Downloaded 5.2 of the via drivers from here
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... =117&Old=1
This sorted the 4TB size problem

I was told the 5.30C were better, you may want to use them for future things... (Probably doesn't matter much)
So the game was showing up as 4 Terabytes in size? Thats massive...
On Topic:
What about the:
TS-H353A
TS-H353B
TS-H352C
TS-H352D

Yes, they are definitely harder to find. Best bet is to stick with the ones in the first post!

COMPUSA's website as well as TIGERDIRECT's website both have the TS-H353B in stock for $19.99 plus shipping (For orders of 6 or more you get total order shipping of $1.99). I have ordered these several times and never had any problems with the drives not flashing (as long as you do the sdfwin nocheck method you will be fine... you can even flash these in dosflash32 very easily as well).

Yeah but 90 bucks you could get three drives from ebay. It may take some time before it arrives but it'll save you a ton of money. Not to mention flashing the drives with the kreon firmware is the easiest computer task you will ever do.
