Are you using a VIA card or your mobo sata port. If you're using a VIA card then I suggest you verify that it's seated correctly. They do go bad but it's pretty rare. If you're using your mobo not all are compatible. Most of us here use the VIA 6421A or L card.

ya its a via card. done several modds now for friends. want to re-flash to be up to date with 1.51 and followed the same procedure but fails right away.
dont think its gone bad. i plugged in a spare sata hd drive i had laying around because i thought the same thing, that it wasnt connecting. but the hd showed up in my computer right away.
never had this happen before...

its not seeing the drive that is for sure.

try a different port.
or put the sata card in a different pci slot

does that drive work
in the console
will it read orig and backup games
right now.

the drive works. plays originals and back ups. just tryin to get 1.51 for wave 3

other sata devices are connecting so via is operational.
shouldnt need to try other port but i will try that next.

in reference to my other question, if i wanted to read the drive, to get the hacked fw that is on there now, is it possible? does it work the same way?

yea

to update a benq with iprep
you dump / flash like it has never been flashed before.

ok after a whole lot of screwing around last night i was able to get it to start recognizing it.
everytime it asked me if i wanted it to abort or retry i moved the tray a little.. than a little more.. until it finally went to the next screen. unfortunatly it failed reading in the first bank. did this several times.

its like it doesnt want to go into b-mode...?

i have never had a problem like that. i tryed with my connectivity kit and even the old fashion way with the xbox powering it!
i can flash a benq in my sleep but this 1 is fitting me for a straight jacket!
lol

...help...

I would have a look at it in Jungle Flasher, just to see if you can get it unlocked... Sounds to me like you can't get in Vendor Mode...

I'm pretty sure you have to have the drive half/open closed to unlock. At least with JF you get confirmation either way of whether the unlock has worked or not...

And mode B?

You don't need mode B for a benq only the Hitachi drives. Yeah I would try JF again. Maybe try the Mod Cd.

update...

it seems in my experience its always the simplest solutions are the answers to even the biggest problems.. in this case it checked and re-checked. tryed a buddies system, a different port for my via card... i was desperate for a solution.
defragged, fixed errors, bought a better virus scanner... brutal!

so... what was the problem?
i had 6 trojans on my computer that my old scanner couldnt find and they corrupted my usb stick that i was using to flash my 360's!
so i got rid of them, popped in a new usb stick and it worked like a charm on the first shot.. both systems..

the usb stick... too funny...
;)
