Total nooob here. I have read ad nauseum about FW flashing. I finally got the b*lls to open up the 360 and give it a go. I have the VIA VT6421A SATA card and am running Vista 32bit. I successfully made a USB flash drive with iPrep101v006. I opened my console with no probs, unplugged all my SATA devices except the onehooked up to my 360. Unfortunately, when I tried to boot from USB Flash I got nothing but error message saying put in boot disk. I tried to mess around in BIOS. but it appears I can't boot from USB. Therefore I need an alternate way to flash ixtreme FW v 1.4, but am unclear on how to do that. Please if someone could direct me, I would be most grateful!!!!!!! THANKS

You can use a floppy if you are sure you cannot boot from USB. Also, I have Vista too. Make sure you ran Iprep as an Administrator. I didn't do this the first few times I tried to get it to work. check your bios again for removable drive enabling...must have an old mb...

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. My vista OS was installed by me, updated from XP. My PC is only 3 yrs old, there is a section in the BIOS for me to enable USB booting but it is under the HDD and CD booting menu, not the removable media menu. The removable media tab only has floppy as an option. Under the HDD menu, I made USB as the first boot device but it wont boot. In the BIOS it actually recognizes my USB flash drive by name (it is a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2GB with U3). Could the problem be my USB Flash drive in that it's not bootable? It is new, I just bought the sucker at Staples 3 days ago. I don't know, maybe I should just research flashing via floppy, It just sux that I spent weeks getting comfortable with this easier more straight forward USB flashing method. Could you direct me to the most recent idiot proof floppy flashing method. Thanks

If you choose not to use a floppy, make sure you disable the floppy in the bios before flashing. This caused some headaches for me when I ran Vista.
Are you using iprep v006, because any USB drive should work. If your bios allows booting from a usb and you've configured it to do so but it is still not booting from the usb then you may want to try re-prepping the drive with iprep, and make sure you run iprep with right-click run as administrator.
As for a guide, I would use the one in the tutorial section of this site and also know that you follow the same procedures using a floppy as you would with a usb (it just takes longer cause floppies are so damn slow).
On a side note, U3 sucks. I have usb's with that feature too. I'm not sure if that would hinder making it bootable but I doubt it. If you have any other USB drive you should try that. I used a 64mb memorex drive (had since college) and it worked ok.

if you are running vista and dont have a floppy in the computer you need to disable it in the bios.if you have a floppy installed it should work fine.
the san disc flash are bad
even if you format the drive it keep that auto lunch crap.
kingston work good
using a floppy is fine just make sure the drive and the disc are good before trying
you set it up the same way but at the bottom of the iprep you put in your floppy drive letter
i think most of the time its "A" drive.
