Disk unreadable.

Post by xXxnottaxXx »

Today, I finally got DVD+R DL's to burn backups on.
So I burnt a few then used ABGx360 to check them.
(ABGx360 said everything was good)
So now when i try to play them i get The Disk Is Unreadable.
And it takes me back to the dashboard.
This sometimes happens during gameplay and when loading up games.
Other times it works flawlessly.
So I tried erasing the DVD Drive then reflashing it.
This lessened the error occurrence slightly.

Is there a way that the original firmware on the stock drive could have been corrupted in someway?
I made 8 backup copies of the OFW before i even attempted making modded FW.
All of the FW copies do the same thing.
So is it possible that the FW was bad to begin with?

EDIT:
Also the disk is COMPLETELY clean, not one fingerprint or scratch.

More likely that its down to cheap media or your laser on its way out. Try getting hold of a verbatim disc and retrying it (unless you are already using verbs) and burn the backups at 2.4x. Does it play originals ok?

For the most part i dont have any problems with originals.
I am using Memorex DL and burning at 2.4x

Also the problem seemed to really start up after I put a game in that had angle 359 on it.

Code: Select all

Checking SS
     Timestamp of Authoring: 2009/--/-- 00:00:00
     Timestamp of Mastering: 2009/--/-- 23:51:40

Caution: This SS contains a value (angle 359) that will cause older versions
of iXtreme to return a detectable bad response! Make sure your drive is flashed
with iXtreme version 1.4 or newer!

     SS CRC = -------- (RawSS = --------)
SS Media ID: --------------------------------- (matches game)
SS looks valid

Also another concern that i has was when i was reflashing it, the iXtreme FW says MS28, when i have an MS25.

(i hid my key but i dont know if i should hide key location aswell, If i should then can a mod remove it if i dont get to it.)

Personally i wouldn't play anything which reported a bad angle but i doubt that had anything to do with your current problem. I'd still say try different media first then go from there.

Any suggestions on where i can get like 1 verbatim cheap just to try it?
(i got the memorex DL's for $0.20 each. :P)

I have MS repairing my other 3RRoD xbox atm, and i dont want to spend a bunch of money if its just my drive messing up.

Also the drive seems to occasionally make a bunch of noises when its reading/playing.
Im used to my semi-quiet liteon, so i might just be over reacting.

Does it matter about iXtreme spoofing my MS25 as an MS28?

no

that dont matter.if it would read orig and backup(sometime) then its not the flash or firmware that is the problem

that wont matter ether.like dale i dont play a game with a bad angle ,but it dont matter as far as game playing is concerned.

I would most if not all your trouble is the fact you are using crap disc on a old v25 dvd drive
the v25 was one of the first drive put in a 360
keep in mind that a backup game is harder to read than a orig game.
if a orig gives you any trouble than it is your dvd drive going out
there are a lot of v28 dvd drives for sale
that you could work in your console with not much work.

Actually yeah, it was grinding, alot.
But I took the drive appart taped up a few of the broken pieces of plastic and corners in it and that stopped most of the abnormal grinding sounds.

Ahhhh.
So are Memorex at 2.4x are really that bad?

And before I go replacing the dive im going to wait for MS to ship my other xbox back after they repair it.
It had a BenQ in it before it left, so hopefully they change that to the newest one. (LiteOn?)

Anyways,
Thanks for the info and the help.

Ive had a few of these lately too, well to be honest its only been Fifa 09 backup I think, and yesterday I tryed backing up Tiger woods 09 and Left for Dead and all went good in AGBX but image burn gave me errors and failed to write half way thru, so I lost 2 discs but also one lost earlier last week, They are only cheap discs, They called E-Discs, Pack of 10 for £9.99 but ive got about 14 backups working spot on out of 20 discs, is this just a case of I will always get some bad discs with cheap ones. Say out of every 10 I buy some might be bad and fail in image burn, If this is the case my drive must be fine.

Thanks !

Memorex discs were the first ones that I chose to use because they were so cheap but I only had problems with them. I never burnt one successful game with them, and the discs won't even be read by my laptop dl burner so I had to attempt to burn them in my desktop... Nothing but problems... Ever since I have been using Verbatims and I have yet to have a problem. Flawless they are!

Strange then how some xboxes will allow them and others will not.

What drives do you have?
-Samsung MS25 w/ iXtreme 1.5

Also ive noticed some Memorex dvd+r Dl's have red plastic wrap and others have purple.
i.e.:

Image
http://www.amazon.com/Memorex-8-5GB-Dou ... 000UWYM5C/

All i notice is ones upto 8x and ones upto 2.4x

Is there anything i can do to make a better memorex backup?
2x burn speed instead of 2.4x?

I just need it to play, doesnt need to pass any XBL tests or anything.

EDIT: Copying the game to the harddrive seems to fix it completely.
>>Load the game at the dash and press Y then download to harddrive.
