sadalius wrote:Any PCI com card won't work. It has to have DOS drivers, but for a standard serial port, they should have dos drivers for it. Mine came with a disk and in the drivers folder was a dos folder that had the driver and instructions on how to use it in dos. You have to run the driver every time you boot to dos unless you put the command to run the driver in your autoexec.bat file. Read over the instructions that came with your card though.
Check.

Im lost on the instructions tho. I copied and pasted them. If you can translate this I'd apprecate it:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NetMos DOS installer version 1.00.024 dated 19-DEC-2001.
Usage : NmDosIn [<options>]By default, NmDosIn displays COM/LPT ports.

Options
-a[dd] = Add NetMos Ports
-c[onfig]:<parameters> = Configure NetMos Ports
-d[elete] = Delete NetMos Ports
-r[emap] = Remap NetMos ports to legacy ports
-s[ilent] = Silent mode
-t[est] = Test ports (requires external Loop-Back plugs)
-u[nused] = remap to all Unused legacy port i/o base,
without consideration of COM/LPT number

Config Option Parameters
-c[onfig]:lpt[1|2|3]=[spp|bpp|ppf|epp|ecp]
e.g., -config:lpt=spp would set all LPT ports to SPP
e.g., -c:lpt1=spp would set lpt1 to SPP
e.g., -c:lpt1=spp,lpt2=bpp would set lpt1 to SPP and lpt2=BPP

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All I know is 1. BOOT TO USB 2. START FLASH. I need help :(

I would have to look at my computer at home to be sure, I'm at work right now, but you would copy nmdosin.exe to your boot device. Once you get to the dos prompt, run it by typing in "nmdosin.exe -a" without the quotes and then pressing enter. That should add the ports to the system, but make sure that you do this before running iprep because it may change your sata controllers addersses so you might have to set iprep back up again. Also, you have to run this command everytime you boot into dos so the driver will be running for you.

I'll look at my config when I get home and let you know for sure. nmdosin is the same driver that I use though.

Glad to hear you have the same driver as me, now I can relax a little.

Where is this dos prompt you speak of? Flashing boxes in the past, I don't remember anything about a dos prompt.

EDIT: Are you talking about this:

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chdos.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have vista so I would:

Windows Vista users

1. Click Start.
2. Type cmd and press enter.
3. Type nmdosin.exe -a and press enter.
4. ???? Boot Into Iprep ???? (Or Make Device Bootable Again?)

If im in left field I wont be surprised :( Just thought I'd do some research since I have time right now.

Right thats the prompt that I was talking about. If your using iprep, your using DOS. If iprep is running it's DOS GUI when you boot it, you'll have to quit or exit iprep in order to get to the DOS prompt, then run your DOS command to invoke the PCI serial card driver and then run iprep by just typing in "autoexec"and hitting enter.

This is what I get:

1. Make usb bootable with Iprep.
2. Drag Dos driver to usb.
3. Boot from usb into iprep
4. Exit Iprep and boot back into windows
5. Run cmd and type nmdosin.exe -a and press enter.
6. Type in “autoexec” and enter
7. Iprep boots
8. Start flash process.

Deal or No Deal?

Nope this is how it goes:

1. Make USB bootable with iprep
2. Drag DOS driver to usb
3. Boot to usb into iprep
4. exit iprep and DO NOT BOOT BACK TO WINDOWS.
5. Type in NMDOSIN.EXE -A and press enter
6. Type in autoexec and hit enter.
7. Iprep starts and continue with dump and flash.

Ah, I see.

I’ve exited quite a few times to make a copy of my back ups folder after dumping. Off hand, I don’t remember seeing a dos prompt after exiting. I’ll try it when I get home.

Thanks for all your help so far. I’ll post how it goes.

When iPrep runs there is prompt at the very bottom, just type "C:" without quotations. You should then be in the root directory of your USB drive. Type "dir" to get a listing of everything in the drive. Now you can continue with Sadalius' instructions.

Right. If your using a newer version of iprep, you'll be at a DOS prompt after you boot to the iprep device. You get a screen that you have to type y and hit enter, then the next thing you get is the DOS prompt. When you hit ctrl-alt-delete on the keyboard at this point all it's going to do is reboot your computer. I think this is the path you need to take, unless your using an older version of iprep. Which at this point, I don't think you are.

Can someone lead me in the right direction as to how to fix this?

- Sata is hooked up
- Power is hooked up
- Open/Eject method done
- Green light on the probe while pressing enter

Not so good news. I got the drivers installed, but im right back to this error. Dang.

When you get this, the drive isn't being seen by the computer. The drive is either on the wrong port or something else is going on. Verify the port settings and try it again.

No good results yet. Heres some notes:

My pci card has 2 COM port connections (dual).
There are 3 ports showing in my iprep. COM1, COM11, and COM12.
When I install the dos drivers in iprep it says COM1 is found on “3F8”. (regardless of which COM port I select when making the usb bootable)
I pulled out the pci card to look for a reference to “3F8”. Nothing found so I re-installed the hardware and software.

I believe I’ve tried every variation so far but I will keep trying.

Well typically a port number is four digits. The best way I know to figure out which port is which, would be to find the PCI card in your device manager and try to disable one of those ports. If you're able to disable just one com port then you might be able to determine the port number of the active one through the device manager. There is also a NFO command that will let you scroll through all open hardware ports on your system. But I can't remember what it is right now.
