Advice on returning console to MS
Advice on returning console to MS
One of my friends has to send her 360 back to Microsoft because it just suddenly died.
The console is only around 5 months old and still under warrenty.
The problem is that, its a Lite-on drive and I flashed the FW for her a few months ago.
I done a neat job removing the foil warrenty sticker just under the faceplate and the paper sticker on the drive itself.
They dont look like they have been tampered with and im pretty sure that they will hold out under any inspection.
The only thing that im worried about is the flashed FW on the drive.
As far as I know, there is no way of restoring the Liteon drive back to its original FW.
If there is a way of restoring the original FW, then please let me know.
If there is no way of going back, then does anyone know if Microsoft check the drives firmware when a console is returned?
I cant see MS having some guy checking every drive with a backup game (but hey , stranger things have happened )
If anyone has been in a similar situation to this with a Liteon then id like to know how you got on.

You're right you can't restore the original firmware on the Lite-On. But in your case I would just send it in people have reported that MS will accept the xbox even if drive is flashed and other times they will reject it.

Re: Advice on returning console to MS
Cant return to original FW because there is no original FW to restore to, no one has been able to dump it completely..
Anyways, I think she should be fine as long as its not a drive related issue and the stickers are on there good. If the stickers dont look tampered with, and its not a drive related issue they will probably just check the seals, if theyre fine, they will swap it or fix the problem.

Re: Advice on returning console to MS
This was the comment that I heard when someone asked the higher ups about restoring the lite-on, MS doesn't check the drives anyway. They just check for the warranty stickers. So if you go by that, your friend will be alright. But I don't have any personal experience with this though so I would be afraid to advise you in this situation.

well
with the liteon chip like it is
not even M$ should be able to dump it anyway
all they should be able to do is reflash it just like us.
now that may not be the case
but
its what ive read.

Re: Advice on returning console to MS
I dont know if its of any help.
But when i returned my xbox to MS they replaced the drive completely.
It wasnt modded and the warranty stickers wern't removed.
But they just completely replaced the drive.
I think all they do to fix em is replace the board and drive anyways.
My dvd drive was changed and the xbox's Mac address was changed.

Sounds like they gave you a replacement... Not 100% sure but I believe they take the case on your console, and put it on another xbox, and send it back.xXxnottaxXx wrote:I dont know if its of any help.

I think it depends on the problem/drive in your console/if they have any replacements handy.
I sent in 2 xbox's because of RRoD (Got them free because they had RRoD). First one was repaired, it took like 2 days, then they told me repair was complete, and they shipped it back. Second one, took like 5 seconds. I got an email saying they recieved my console, 5 seconds later I got one saying repair complete and they are shipping it out.
When I got it I had a Liteon, and on the xbox site, it said "Xbox 360 Pro Return/Referb" or something like that...

It took like 5 days to ship, them to "Repair" it, and send it back.
It was a repair for 3RRoD.
Also explains why its Mac address changed.
But now i feel like im topic-jacking.

Re: Advice on returning console to MS
Just got an email from MS saying that the console is on its way back from a service center in Germany by UPS
Its lookin like so far so good.
The console was a Falcon version so does anyone know what are the chances of getting a Jasper back from them?
Do MS send out the newer Jasper boards in repaired consoles or do they just give you back a new/repaired Falcon?
I am hoping to have this console back in a day or two then I will post an update here.

Re: Advice on returning console to MS
Ok I just wanted to post a final update on this situation.
The console arrived back today.
There was a letter enclosed saying that a problem had been found with the DVD drive.
A new Liteon drive was fitted (which I have just finished flashing)
There was also a card giving one free month on Xbox Live thrown in too
Looks like it pays to take a little bit more time and effort to preserve the warrenty stickers/labels when opening your 360.
