Good deal getting a benq back from M$....lucky dog you are. The tut section here at RHPG has the step by step instructions for flashing the Benq done by Cofree. Just look under video in tut section for the info. :D

you can use either as they are two seperate ways to flash but the good news is the benq is the easiest drive to flash....I use iPrep for benq's.... straightforward flash not as many variables as it's done in dos....I would start there in iPrep v9 which can be had in the downloads section of RHPG. No worries here man, the team at RHPG will get you through it....when your done it will feel good to have done it yourself. Ask anything don't be shy,...and welcome BTW

thanks for warm welcome and advice.

I am just a little confused i can open the xbox its quite easy but after that, there's the trouble. I am start with some questions. you said dos would be easier but from reading the Jungle flasher pdf it seems windows is easier as in no restarts are involved and its all one program.

I am little confused with half tray mode to unlock it? or something I just want to point out its a stock drive i have done nothing to it except open it up and see what make and model it was. I should be getting my motherboard on Friday and once I set the computer up I am going to try to flash it. Iprep seems to involve making a usb flash drive and all that and jungle flasher doesn't seem to look for that. I am just trying to think what would be easy in the sense of backup the key? and the firmware for future keeping as i been reading after some time the drive seems to fail and looking on flebeay they are pretty cheap to replace. i am sorry for the paragraph responses but I am still new and being concise isn't my forte.

It would seem that way would it not....but the reality JF when set up and running is a tad easier to use as no restarts are needed...here it comes.....but, it's more difficult to set up the computer to use JF...JF is more picky/finiky/riddled with glitches if you will. Booting into dos will be much easier on you mentally IMO than fiddling around trying to make the via card work without the drivers, as you will have to do, to use JF.

Point to ponder: When you do something for the first time do you really want to make it harder on yourself? :?

In the end, the choice is yours to make and we will support you in either direction...just let us know what you need. :D

Some people find JF the right choice...some don't. That's all I am saying

well when you boot up using usb you will get a "c:\" command where you will type this

dben 1234567 12345 replace the 1234567 12345 with your serial number which can be found on the barcode located at the back of your 360.

the follow the onscreen prompts.

Will advise to boot back into windows when you have dumped and saved your firmware to make sure you have the back up copy and save it to a couple of places.

Follow this tutorial then you will fine

need anything else just post up

good luck

Yeah I agree JF was a pure headache for me also, so I used iprep and to be honest once you get into dos to read the FW its pretty easy to follow coz it tells you what to do, The only thing I dont think it does tell you is make sure to reboot back to windows and save and backup your backup folder from the stick and email it to urself.

Ive just this minute done mine from 1.51 to 1.6 and was still a little worried but its very easy, The scariest part for me is that dam razerblade friggin 360 case, I can get it off pretty easy now with the tools but somehow you still manage to pour with blood from ur fingers, You dont realise until you unplugging the sata lead from the drive and you notice a big pile of blood, LoL. It dont stop either I had to wrap a towell round it while I done the rest. Crazy stuff man.

Listen to these guys on here they helped me every step, Trust in them and youl be flashing in no time, LoL. Pardon the Pun ! :D

ok got you so far another question how can i unlock the drive? according to the video it says just leave the drive half open but I don't have the connectivity kit will it work with the xbox power cord ?? I know to keep the av cable in just in case it times out. i think i am just use iprep ..can i use two computers to do it ..lets say
i make the iprep on my laptop now on the flash drive then on my desktop i boot it up with only the the xbox dvd hooked up and i save the firmware.. then i go back on my laptop and save the file.. then how do i make the custom file that i need to put on the drive.. i have iextreme 1.6 and and at that point i will have the orginal firmware from the drive on my laptop ??

post that i will have a custom firmware back to the desktop plug in the usb and continue to flash the firmware. much like the video and once thats done test and original halo 3 and if it works try a backup halo 3. correct? and make sure you use the program abgx on level 3 pass?

am i missing something except how to make the orginal into the custom?

Yeah mate it works with power lead, First time I done it to 1.5 I never had to power cycle the drive, Second time to 1.51 I never either but just this minute done the 1.6 with iprep 009 and I had to power cycle, Just keep turning it on and off while the numbers are flashing. I half opened the drive and then turned it off and it worked, Then you need to put in the port number what it asks for, Mine was 4 but may be different on yours, It shows you what port your drive is on further up the screen but if you passed that part before you got it just restart the PC and do it again. It will have numbers 1-5 or something and it wil show VA6873 or something similar, This is the 360 drive you have3 connected so whichever number it is on write it down and when it asks for it just type the number and press enter.

But yeah it works 100% with the power lead. Make sure you rest the 360 on the PC casing while flashing to keep it grounded, and I got told to plug in the AV lead in the back aswell, not into TV just hanging nout of console.

Good Luck Buddy !

all you need to do once the stick is prepared mate is this,

Unplug power lead in PC while you open it,
Unplug your hard drives and find the sata lead on the board,Unplug that and plug in the one you have
Now plug the other end in the 360, plug your PC power lead back in and turn both on.
Boot into the stick, should be removable device.
type in dben and your serial number as it shows.
follow the instructions its very simple.
Then you may not need to power cycle, sometimes it asks you to, others it will auto do it
when it asks what you want to do after its read the drive choose "R" for read,
Once its read the banks you should get a green successfull message
Now unplug the sata lead from the board and plug all PC leads back in and boot back into windows
open the stick and save the backup folder and send it in emails so you never loose it.
you only need to do this the once as everytime you update the FW you already will have the OFW so after youve read the drive you can go on to flash without having to reboot into windows.
anyway after youve made the backup safe unplug everything and plug back in the sata lead.

Now you can type the fben command and your serial, follow the instructions on screen and instead of typing " R " to read you type " W " to write, follow instructions and after its read all banks and they ok it will end at the " C " prom. It will be done. Just turn off the PC and dissconnect everything.

You shud be good to go now it shud be flashed. If anythiung goes wrong which I doubt it will therl be people on here that can help you sort it out as long as you have the OFW. I done it about a month ago myself and the guys on here had it working again before the end of the day.

Ive just trped this as its how ive just this minute done mine. Im just trying to help you.

Good Luck man ! ;)
