Re: wii mod???
man im just digging deep into it now myself.
if you buy a new wii im not sure it can be sofemod at this time.
I think a mod chip will work on any though.

Re: wii mod???
What about the drivekey, would that not be the easiest? I read through the Wii section on here did a quick Google. It looks straight forward.
Re: wii mod???
If you are going to go with a modchip I'm almost certain the easiest and most sure-fire route is to use a ribbon-interface at this time, ie. Drivekey is what I would suggest.
However, I just ran a system software update on my wii the other day in order to get the latest release which as of now is 4.0 and it was very easy to get homebrew channel and the backup launcher running. Compatibility is not what it is with a chip tho. I had luck running Mario Galaxy off the backup launcher but the other two games I tried, Fatal Frame 4 (J) and Obscure Aftermath (U) did not load.
I would get a chip, although you might want to just install both options. I would get the wii, then do a softmod first. If you find that doesn't work well for the games you want to run, get a chip. But, make sure your system is compatible with the softmod. I think as of now, all new wii's can be softmodded because I just did it on the latest system firmware. However, I dunno when Nintendo will next release an update that will almost certainly block the current softmod methods...for now

Re: wii mod???
the firmware is not the thing here .
you should not try a softmod on a console that has a LU64++ ser #
you can/will brick the console.

Re: wii mod???
Ouch my bad, guess I got lucky with that one
Well there you go strykr, if I were you I'd get a Drivekey and be done with it.
If you are getting a new one, look here to see what you may get in terms of serials and the like

Re: wii mod???
as far as the plug and play mod chips go
at this point we are thinking the wasabi dx maybe the way to go.
it seams people are liking it a little better.
ive not played with one yet though.

Re: wii mod???
Just check the serial number when you get it. If it's an lu64 or higher, I wouldn't try a softmod on it. Rather go with a chip of some sort to get backups going. They'll figure out the lu64 and up sometime or another before to long.
