Laptop not detecting DVD Drive.. but worked before

Well I tried flashing a BenQ today, I tried using iPrep and loaded the bencfw.bin file and selected the correct com and sata card. i made the flash drive bootable. Booted off of it. Type dBen 1234567 12345 (actual serial) then hit ok, and it came up with a list of all the ATAPI devices but it didnt find any at first. Then it did find one but it didn't recognize it, like it had no info. I kept trying to send the vendor intro to that device which was the only one on the list but it kept failing. So I tried going to JF to do it and whenever I turned on the switch on my CK3 to power the drive my laptop like semi froze, and when I finally got into JF, it didn't detect the drive.
Thing is I've flashed 2 drives already on the same laptop with the same equipment but for some reason it wouldn't detect this drive... I have all my card drivers and port IO32 installed. If you need any more info let me know.
Drive I was trying to flash I took out of an elite, and it was a BenQ.
I'm using an HP laptop with a PCMCIA - Express card converter connected and then a PCMCIA card connected to that.
With a a connectivity kit that is connected to an external PSU via molex and to the laptop via mini usb - usb. And yes the PCMCIA card is VIA 6421a
