flashing or replacing a Lite-On drive

Post by piojo »

hello

I just bought a Xbox 360 with a Lite-On drive (unfortunately, I guess)
and I was wondering whats the best option should I choose:

1) go to a store or a guy that published himeslf in a forum(I don't know him, but neither the one in the store) and have it flashed for me

2) order a Benq drive from ebay for ~26$ and flash it by myself. (Is there a difference between them?)

The thing is, the price I gonna spend if I buy the CK3+probe + delivery cost more than Benq drive and the flashing by the guy mentioned above.

What I'm looking after, is that in the next firmware, I will be able to flash it myself.

now I read a lot of tutorials and guides on flashing and I understood that Benq drive can be flashed with Intel ICH9 Sata chipset and the Lite-On, from what I figured out, cant. (needs VIA) - correct me if wrong.

well, sorry for the long post but I wanted to give all the details.

thanks in advance

Honestly if you want to be able to do the flashing yourself in the future, put up the cash for the ck3 preferably with probe. Especially since you have a lite-on. The thing about replacing a lite-on with anything else is that you still have to go through all of the trouble of getting the key.bin from your lite-on and if you can do that successfully there's no reason to not flash it with iXtreme 1.51 or 1.6 yourself. Paying someone to do it is nice because you can usually count on their expertise if anything goes awry. Also if you feel like shipping it to have it flashed there's several personnel on here both in the US and Europe that can flash your drive and have it back to you fairly quickly.

well, what I'm asking is this:

In case I go and flash my Lite-On in a store or by a guy, will I be able to do it by my own (in next firmware) without ck3 and via sata chipset?

yes
but without a way to power the dvd drive (ck3)
you will have to power the drive with the console itself
(very hard to pull off)

i fill if your were able to do that
then you would have flashed this your self by now.

about the power, I saw some tutorials videos about flashing and the used the xbox for power.

well I couldnt flash it by myself because I dont have ck3, via sata and a probe or a steer.

what from the above I must have to be able to flash it?

I have a Intel ICH9 Sata chipset and saw some posts saying it works on benq.
