Microsoft Taking Care Of It’s Gold Members After Last Weeks Live Outage
by Torrence Davis

I got some info from my Microsoft contact after questioning whether or not Gold Members will get thrown a bone for all the downtime they had to sit through. While nothing has been officially announced, they have stated, “…we will definitely be doing something for our Gold members that weren’t able to get online over the last week.”

It only makes sense right? It didn’t dawn on me how stupid it was to have multiplayer access be the only perk Gold members get for their membership fee until this past week. I happily pay for my Gold account but damn, give me something worthwhile for it besides multiplayer gaming. I seriously think Microsoft should allow all Xbox Live members, Silver and Gold, access to multiplayer gaming. For the Gold membership we should get access to downloadable content, early demos before Silver members(already implemented), access to all the E3 and Comic Con videos, discounted purchases and whatever else they can think up. Being able to get on my dashboard but not play COD4 online basically put me in Silver account mode. I know for a fact that PS3 owners were playing COD4 over the holiday. I wish I was. Stay tuned for a full announcement from Microsoft.

I wonder how much it was costing the PS3 owners....

It's a joke that we have to pay to play online mutliplayer in the first place, let alone play "intermittently". I think we should be refunded for a week...

LOL Free week it only cost 10.95 p a day for live, for this were getting a free xbox live arcade game. This works out at about £6.50 ish. Seems like a good deal to me 650/10.95 is about 60 days worth of live. I don't see how something like this could be free, especially if you wanted all the features and the such still to be there.

Pro-rate the account for down time, or give us the choice of the XBLA game we want. I heard that the game they are going to give us sucks.

Free game for Xbox Live downtime? Xbox Live crashes
Image
By Ben Kuchera

Today was supposed to be the day that Microsoft released the free download of the Xbox Live Arcade original Undertow to make up for those days of system downtime and instability Xbox Live users suffered through over the holidays. Which makes today the perfect time for the system to come crashing to its knees again.

When many gamers tried to retrieve Undertow this morning, they got a message telling them the system "can't retrieve information from Xbox LIVE. Please try again later." The message also helpfully points out that this is a status code: 8015000a.

I've been trying to grab the game myself, and I'm also suffering from this error message. I'm not quite sure what to say about this; if Microsoft had any doubts at all about its ability to serve the free game, they should have released a message saying the release was bumped back a few days. Having system issues on the day you release the free game to make up for the system issues much make the marketing folks wince. Can we get a copy of Boom Boom Rocket to make up for the game that was supposed to make up for the fact that the system we're paying for doesn't work?

Yeah, I got that message when I tried d/l it. Just keep trying, it took me about 3 minutes (of re-trying the page) till it started successfully d/l the game. Once it started it only took about 2 minutes for it to complete. There must be millions of people doing the d/l today.

Makes me wonder why people have to PAY to play. In my opinion it would be different if the service was free, but we pay for access, couldn't get it, so MS says oh, here, to make up for it, heres a free game that you won't be able to download because everybody else is trying to download it at the same time and crashed the system yet again, oh wait, I can't tell you that the system is crashed because were being sued so forget I said anything about the system crashing.
