Flashing a MS28 with drive key but no original firmware

Hello All,
I am after some help please?
Tried to use the search funtion but it kept coming back with an error so i am sorry if this has already been posted and resolved?
I have a Hitachi drive that has stopped reading discs, plays for a bit then comes up with a read error when playing games, think the laser may be on it's way out.
I recently bought a Samsung MS28 in error and i am trying to spoof this drive to replace my Hitachi.
It seems straight forward and would be,but i do not have the original firmware from the Hitachi due to formatting my PC and losing it.
I have the drive key from the drive though that i had e-mailed to myself.
How can i use the Hitachi drive key and inject this onto the Samsung MS 28?
If i had the original firmware i would not be asking this question because it should be straight forward.
I can find loads of tutorials for spoofing the drive but they all mention having the original firmware to inject onto the MS 28.
Is it possible for me to replace the MS28's key with the Hitachi one that i have?
Thank you for any help that any of the clever people on these forums may be able to offer.
I look forward to hopefully hearing from somebody soon.
All the best.
And thank you in advance.
If you require any more information then please do not hesitate to ask.
Take care.

you can do it
but
you will need firmware toolbox v4.8
you can find it here
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... f=112&t=48" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
then after you have your key in the spoofed firmware
then you can flash it in
with jungle flasher or iprep

Nice work with that move.

First dump the ms28 to get the firmware out....assuming your drive has firmware...if it's brand new most likely it will not have anything....if thats the case go to xbins for ms28 firmware...

I use firmware toolbox to spoof...all you gots to do when you load up the target FW copy the key into the FW portion and click save key....then under tools click to spoof whatever hit drive you had...use calculated checksum option...and inject your new spoofed fw into your MS28.

If I missed something let me know.

Well what a bugger of a time i had trying to spoof the drive.
I managed to get the key from the Hitachi ok but i could not get the key from the new Samsung no matter what i tried.
It's not the first time i've had problems though and i think it is down to my motherboard.
I won't bore you with all the details, but in the end i opened up the Samsung and Hitachi drives because after doing a 12hr shift i was getting really annoyed spending 4hrs on it and getting nowhere fast.
I checked the laser in both drives and they looked identical,i thought what have i got to lose? and i needed some sleep.
After swapping them i booted it up waiting for a disc unreadable or something but to my amazement and relief it worked.
This is just in case anybody else comes across this problem? They now know they have something to fall back onto as a last resort.
Thank you for all the advice offered,it's a shame i could not put it into practice and get to know the ins and outs of the X-Box a little more.
At least i have my X-Box working and that was always the aim.
Thank you.
Take care.

Hi, i know you have solved your problems but if you had the sammy drive running it would be better because the hitachis are not that good, if you spoofing a sammy into a hit then you dont need the sammys key, all you need is the hitachi firmware with a valid key. When you have that go into jungle flasher and open the hitachi firmware as the source firmware and samsung ixtreme 1.51 as the target, then click spoof source to target, make sure both keys match in both firmware boxes then proceed with flashing the sammy in your prefered way, jungle flasher or iprep could finish off the job.

Hope this helps mate.

Thank you for the reply and advice Louis09,
I understand what you are saying m8,but i'm fed up with messing about with it to be honest.
I have flashed quite a few X-Boxes now and when i first started doing them i really enjoyed the challenge but that enjoyment has now gone and it all seems such a chore.
It's working and playing games and they are not frezing like they was,so to me i have got a result.
If in the near future it breaks, then i will just go onto E-Bay and buy another.
I got this for £60 with a RROD fix and it is keeping the X-Box much cooler than any other i have ever had.
Take care m8.
All the best to you.
