Had a friend tell me that a Liteon drive from a recently purchased Jasper 360 had its R707 blocked, preventing the key being dumped from the DVD drive. I was shown the following photo as proof:
Anything to worry about, or just a hoax? This is the first I've heard of any issue like this with the Liteon drives.

having a close up look at it, you can still easily get to the 707 point also would still be easy to bridge

I have flashed 2 Liteon drives today.
Both were brand spanking new with a manufacturing date of April 2009 and new HW Version A0A2
There was nothing like this on the R707 points.
So I would guess its a fake.

Might have also been someone going to the darkside and gutswapping it after a failed attemt at bridging it and the shop might have sold it on unaware. As sadalius said they look suspiciously like staples.

If MS were going to block the R707 point, then I reckon they would just pour a blob of epoxy glue over it.
That method in the pic doesnt look like it is even fully covering the point.

Yeah it's definitely fake. M$ would do a lot better job then that. Not to mention it would probably be on Phillips/Lite-On to make up for the drives flaws and not M$'s. And you know they would find a better way than staples!! LOL
