GDR-3120L v46 bricked?

Hi guys,

I think I've bricked my old GDR-3120L v46 by using the internal flasher in toolbox 4.6 instead of the flash46.exe!
The progress bar had moved along several notches then the app just froze on me - I was going to upgrade to 1.4 of iextreme.

I tried to kill the app and relauch so I could use the flash46.exe but the previous app was still frozen up. I even tried to log off and relogin into my machine incase that resolved the app issues. But I think the reason it was freezing was down to windows freaking out over the weird drive it now had connected to the PC. Reluctantly (and probably foolishly) I restarted the machine to see if I could fix the issue with toolbox 4.6, now the drive is no longer recognised in my BIOS and the disc tray fails to eject :(

Are there any tricks to getting a bricked drive back? From what I've been reading other drives can be bought back from the dead using mtkflash and swapping SATA cables on an existing drive but I didn't think you could use that on the GDR-3120L drives?

I have a back up of my key, original & hacked firmware before I was stupid enough to use the internal flasher ;)
Will I just have to swap drives? If so, what should I try and get?

Thanks for your help in advance and also for a very cool forum!:)

Thanks for the info cofree. Unfortunately the drive isn't even being picked up by my bios anymore so I can't restore via windows. I think the firmware on the drive is completely screwed. :(

Think I'm going to have to swap out the drive unless anyone knows of a way of getting the drive reflashed without using windows. Like a linux option or by tricking the bios?

Thanks again for the vid and reply :)

The only thing I can think of with this is to remove the TSOP chip and flash it using an external programmer. I am not sure how someone can brick these drives because they are hard to brick and really easy to flash. LOL.

You might try not connecting the sata cable until you get into windows. At that point, windows will do one of three things. First, it might lock up, second it may not recognize the drive at all and third, it may work properly. If it locks up or doesn't recognize it, reboot and try again, you may have to try several times if this trick is going to work. If this doesn't work, then getting the tsop read out and re-programmed with a willem programmer wil for sure work because when a hitachi flashes, it flashes around the key and other parts of the firmware, so the key should still be there like cofree said.

You in the UK? I found this link if you are: http://www.technoglobe.co.uk/store/come ... roduct=400

not sure how reliable that place is as I'm in the states. I made an edit to my last post so you might want to re-read it. You'd have to have a connectivity kit for mode b to do it that way though. What were you doing to get the drive in mode b before? 2 wire trick, slax cd or what?

Yeah this kit will solve your problem. I flashed a drive for some guy and he had the same problem yesterday. I just got this kit 2 days ago I was blessed by the mail service. The problem is that when your drive is in your 360 it is imposible to make it go in mode b again. With this kit you force it to go in mode b. After I got the drive recognized by windows I was able to restore it and the flash it the correct way. There are the easiest drives ever! I only which they had something to make the flashing of the hitachi 0079 easier. I hate Microsoft for ever inventing this drive.
