Lookin for some help with SATA card

I'm making my first attempt at flashing a 360 drive it's a Lite-on. After all the research and watching numerous videos I think that I can replicate the positive results but I'm having difficulty with the sata controller card (Syba Sil3512) that I recently installed to a pci slot in my old HP a520n tower. On boot the card is shown to be installed and windows also tells me that it is working. JF tells me that there is no device detected and iprep constantly say the dvd-key is invalid. I tried hooking up a pioneer dvd-rw drive that was connected through a usb to sata connection and powered externally to the card and it isn't recognized either. If anyone can help me figure out this situation I would greatly appreciate it. Also as a side note I don't have a male to female db9 serial cable I do however have a db9 female to db25 male cable and a db25 female to db9 male adapter. Would this setup be sufficient or do I need to hit up ebay for a single cable.

Also forgot to add that I do have the ck3 tool and probe

Hey man welcome to the site and welcome to the hobby of flashing drives you and all questions you may have are welcome here.....as far as your sata card goes it may work but I have no experience with that make or model.....the one most of us use is via sata 6421...cheap, reliable, and know to work with all drives. If you have any other questions hit us back.

First let's tackle the cable issue. Monoprice.com has the best cables at the best prices period!! And I would definitely not use any adapters when trying to mod anything.
Second, if nothing is being read through your sata card then the card is probably bad. And like shootsteel said we all pretty much use the VIA 6421A or L Sata card for flashing. Lite-ons work best with anything other than the VIA cards though, strange I know. Now if you have an on board sata connection that you know is working then I would try to use that first.
