Do I need to run activate.iso when upgrading (ix 1.4 to 1.6

I am using iprep and will be upgrading from iXtreme 1.4 (or earlier) to 1.6. I have updated definitions for the newest iPrep but am confused if I need to somehow disable firmguard?
Or do I just connect the drive with 1.4 on it and do dSam and then do fsam or wahtever the instructions say.
Also I have the original USB drive I used for the original flashing with iXtreme 1.4 (where I have the original firmeware stored as SAM-OFW.BIN. Should I try to use that (I know I would have to rename it to SAMOFW.BIN), or should I just do the dump of what I have now and flash using that.
Last question is that activate.iso. Do I need that at all if I'm using iPrep? I don't even know how I would use that as I would prepare the USB drive using iPrep and then boot to it.
Any help would be appreciated.
I never upgraded from one frimware to another and am conused about the concept of the firmguard and if I should do anything about it or just proceed as if I had an unmodified drive. Also, since I'm using connecivity kit and iPrep, how would I run activate.iso (after I burn it to a DL +R disk). The drive will not be connected to xbox, but will get power from a computer power supply, and will be connected to the PC via SATA cable and connectivity kit.
Thanks for your help

If your going to use iprep on a samsung drive, you treat it as if it's never been flashed before. No activate.iso or anything. Thats only if your going to use jungleflasher.

So I'm doing dsam and it's very slow in doing anything. It recognizes the drive and the find it, etc. All other drives are shown as NONE. I have, however and IDE drive C: still connected to my comp.
After reading Banks 0-4 (they all show OK!)
It tells me:
Reading finished! DataSum AC10.
Then it shows the message Sector not found reading drive C
Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail?
I tried all the answers and nothing happens
What shoould I do then.
Then it shows the message Sector not found WRITING drive C
and it tells me when I hit f (for Fail):
Fail on INT24 - Backups\1234567\12345\SamOFW.BIN
Then again it keeps showing me:
Sector not found WRITING drive C
Abort, Retry, Fail?
Help please

After disconnecting the C drive in my comp everything went smooth.
I now have ixtreme 1.6.
Thanks again for your help

It turned out it was a faulty usb drive from Best Buy. It would not properly work when booting and then when reading/writing. After using another usb drive it all worked like a charm.
Everything runs. I flashed 2 separate 360s today using this method.
You, guys, are the best and quickest to give the right answer. I was flashing usingh Cofree's video on iprep 9. Excellent stuff!!!
Hope this helps others upgrading their ixtreme firmware.
Thanks
