Forgive me for sounding dumb but this is new to me so here's the question-I've spoofed a BenQ drive as a Hitachi right? now do I flash it again as a hitachi to get it to read my backups? i'm sure I spoofed it right because the drive reads as a hitachi but it doesn't play backups just says open tray with the DVD in the tray could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Does it play originals? What firmware is on it, never mind that it's been spoofed, but what firmware did you flash to the drive? What steps did you take to spoof the hitachi's key into your benq?

Tech-here's the steps I followed now I didn't try an orginal and when following these steps I did the patching(source and target) with the drive off. then when doing the flashing I turned the drive on now I did get a message stating the target drive hadn't been spoofed do you want to continue so i did and it flashed the drive which reads as a hitachi. Here's the steps I followed.
its simple, open jungle flasher and open your hitachi 79 firmware as the source firmware then open a BENQ ixtreme 1.6 firmware as the target firmware,
click spoof source to target,
then check that the keys match in both boxes ALSO make sure it says in the target box spoofed as: (whatever drive your spoofing in bold),
click save to file and save your custom created BENQ firmware. Now onto the flashing,
make sure the BENQ is hooked up and powered on and open jungle flasher, open the mtk flash 32 tab,
make sure your BENQ is showing up in the drive properties and simply click Benq UnLock in the top right corner, it should say in the log sending Magic Keys blah blah blah, if it says done your drive is in vendor mode,
your now ready to flash the spoofed firmware to the drive.
Make sure you get status 0x73 which can be found in the flash chip properties bottom row.
Now go into firmware tool 32 tab and click open target firmware and open up the spoofed BENQ firmware,
then open the mtk flash 32 tab again and click on write near the bottom right corner,
it will write all 4 banks and if it says write verified ok! then your done flashing,
now above the write tab click Outro/ATA Reset.
The drive should appear in the drive properties as a hitachi 79 drive (because thats what you spoofed it as).

Yeah i wrote that out for you, ive done a few spoofs and thats how i do it, dump the firmware off the BENQ and check the key, remember treat the BENQ as a BENQ in jungle flasher, even though it shows up as a hitachi thats just part of the spoof.

Thanks Louis-question can I re-do this over again without affecting anything(safe to do?) the reason is the drive won't read backups or orginals and I'm wondering what went wrong. So should I try spoofing again?

Another question there are two firmware version for the BenQ one is the 0800x I beleive I didn't use that one because I wasn't sure and my drive was made in 4-08. Should I perhaps have used the 0800x or is it to late to do so.

Sorry for the late reply i was out, DO NOT use the 0800 firmware, it is for backing up original xbox 360 games and that only, i dont know what going wrong, make sure the keys match thats all i can think of, ive sent you a PM, read it.

That's the strange part-I really don't know, when I had read your instructions on the patching(source&target) I had the 360 turned off and I used the orginal bin and firmware that were stored on my pc and I had gotten a message that the spoof wasn't done (this occured just before I flashed the drive once I had turned it on) but I ignored the warning and went ahead well that's when I got the open-tray error so I decided to Re-Flash the unit again this time reading the tutorial starting at pg. 56 and it worked like a charm told me it was spoofed and the flash was a piece of cake.
